Heavy equipment and machinery movers: CNC machine and control cabinet on machinery skates

Rigging-Busters moves industrial machinery and heavy equipment for plants across Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Our machinery movers and riggers rig, skid, lift, transport and set in place everything from a single CNC machine to a complete production line, and we handle equipment relocations, full plant moves and closures.

We work with manufacturers, food and pharmaceutical plants, printers, metal fabricators and equipment dealers who need heavy equipment moved safely, on schedule and with minimal downtime.

  • Industrial work only: factory, warehouse and plant equipment across the GTA, never household or office moves.
  • One crew, one quote: rigging, trucking, set-in-place, levelling and millwright installation.
  • Answers within 2–4 business hours on quote requests.
  • Service area: all of Toronto, from Etobicoke to Scarborough, plus the GTA and southern Ontario.

Crew moving a large industrial machine on steel cribbing with a heavy-capacity forklift

Moving heavy machinery is a planned rigging job, not a delivery. In a Toronto plant that means knowing the weight, centre of gravity and lifting points, the slab rating and the turning room at every door before anything moves. The method follows from those numbers: machinery skates, a hydraulic gantry, jack-and-roll, or an overhead lift by a licensed crane partner.

How We Move Heavy Machinery in Toronto

Each Toronto machinery move follows seven steps:

  1. Specs and photos: make, model, weight and dimensions, both addresses, how each building is accessed, and your dates.
  2. Site check if needed: door openings, floor loads, ramps and docks, lifting points and the way out.
  3. Plan and permits: method, crew and schedule. An MTO single-trip permit is filed at least 5 business days before the trip, and a City of Toronto single-trip permit usually takes 7 to 10 business days.
  4. Lockout first: your maintenance team or a licensed electrical contractor disconnects power, compressed air and water.
  5. Rig out and load: rated slings, skates, gantries or jack-and-roll move the machine, which is then secured on the trailer.
  6. Haul: a trailer matched to the load, a permitted route, and escorts when the size calls for them.
  7. Set and level: the machine lands on its new footprint, levelled and ready for reconnection, with millwright installation if you need it.

Equipment Our Crew Uses

  • Machinery skates and dollies for rolling machines through tight plants and loading bays
  • Hydraulic gantries where a building has no overhead crane
  • Jack-and-roll systems for raising the heaviest equipment in stages and rolling it into place
  • Heavy-capacity lift trucks for loading, unloading and placing machines
  • Trailers sized to each load for heavy machinery transport across the GTA
  • Crane lifts by licensed crane partners, only when a job needs one

Machinery Transport and Permits in Toronto

Every load gets a trailer matched to it, and we arrange the permits and escorts. On Toronto streets, a truck and load that reaches 2.59 m (8.5 ft) wide, 4.15 m high, 21.33 m long or 50 t needs a City of Toronto single-trip oversize load permit, which normally takes 7 to 10 business days. Provincial highways need an MTO permit. Oversize loads can’t use the Don Valley Parkway, Black Creek Drive, the Allen Expressway, the elevated part of Lake Shore Boulevard West or the Gardiner east of the Humber, so we plan the route around them. The City permit covers one route and travel time, and that route is scouted 48 hours before the move; if it is blocked, a revised route needs its own permit.

Millwright Installation and Levelling

Once a machine is on its new footprint, our millwrights level and align it and leave it ready for your electricians. Anything too big to travel in one piece is split at the old site and rebuilt at the new one, so you do not need a second contractor to finish the installation. If you need new machines installed or a line set up rather than moved, see our millwright services and machinery installation in Toronto.

Machines We Move: CNC, Presses, Production Lines

Our Toronto machinery movers handle heavy and sensitive industrial equipment for the city’s factories and warehouses, such as:

  • CNC machines, machining centres and lathes
  • Stamping and forming presses, and printing presses
  • Plastic injection moulding and extrusion machines
  • Packaging, food and beverage processing lines
  • Metal fabrication and welding equipment
  • Transformers, switchgear and generators
  • Heavy lab, pharmaceutical and hospital plant equipment

Industries We Serve

Toronto’s Employment Areas hold about 90% of the city’s manufacturing and warehousing jobs, and Tapscott, South Etobicoke and Rexdale-Airport have the most proposed new projects, according to the City’s 2025 development bulletin. We move equipment for automotive parts, plastics and packaging, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, metal fabrication and printing plants there and across the GTA, plus equipment dealers and auction buyers.

Production Line Relocations

On a line move, every connection is match-marked and photographed first. The machines leave in rebuild order, each one lands on its marks and is levelled and aligned, and your licensed electricians handle the disconnects and reconnects. Moving a whole facility? See factory and plant relocation in Toronto.

How We Move CNC Machines

Before a CNC machine moves, your team or the OEM backs up the control and empties the coolant, and we lock the axes and the spindle. Skates, a gantry or a heavy-capacity lift truck take it out; at the new bay it is set and levelled for the OEM technician to recommission. More on CNC machine moving in Toronto.

Machinery Moving Cost in Toronto: What Affects the Price

Each Toronto machinery move is quoted on its own, from photos or a site visit. What drives the price:

  • The machine: weight, size and centre of gravity
  • Both buildings: door width, ceiling height, stairs, docks and floor load limits
  • The lift method: skates, gantry, jack-and-roll or a crane (crane time is included in your quote)
  • The route: distance, City and MTO permits, escorts, and any detour around the DVP, the Gardiner or other restricted roads
  • Anything beyond the move: dismantling and re-assembly, crating, levelling and millwright installation
  • When: your shutdown window, or night and weekend work

To compare Toronto movers fairly, ask each for one price that covers rigging, transport and set-in-place.

Machinery Moving in Toronto: FAQ

What does a machinery mover do?

A machinery mover, also called a machine moving company or industrial rigger, plans and carries out the relocation of heavy industrial equipment. The crew rigs and lifts the machine, skids it out of the building, loads and transports it, then sets it in place and levels it at the new location. Many movers, including Rigging-Busters, also offer millwright installation.

How do you move heavy machinery safely?

We start with the machine’s weight, centre of gravity and lifting points, the floor capacity and the route out. Then we pick the method: skates to roll it, a hydraulic gantry where there is no overhead crane, jack-and-roll for very heavy loads, or a crane lift by a licensed partner. The machine is rigged, secured on the trailer and levelled at the new site.

How much does it cost to move industrial machinery in Toronto?

Every machinery move is priced per job. The cost depends on the weight and size of each machine, access at both ends, the lifting method, distance and transport permits, and timing. A quote that covers rigging, transport and set-in-place together is the easiest to compare. Use our Heavy Lifting and Moving Calculator for a rough range, or send the job details for an exact quote.

Do you also transport the machinery and handle permits?

Yes. We haul machinery on matched trailers and arrange the permits. In Toronto, oversize loads need a City single-trip oversize load permit, which normally takes 7 to 10 business days, plus an MTO permit on provincial highways. They cannot use the Don Valley Parkway, Black Creek Drive, the Allen Expressway, the elevated part of Lake Shore Boulevard West or the Gardiner east of the Humber, so we route around them.

How far ahead should I book a machinery move?

As early as you can. A City of Toronto oversize load permit normally takes 7 to 10 business days, and Ontario asks carriers to apply for an MTO permit at least 5 business days before the trip. Production lines and plant relocations are planned further ahead, around your shutdown window, so the crew, equipment and permits are ready on the day.

Who disconnects power and utilities before the move?

Your maintenance team or a licensed electrical contractor disconnects and locks out power, compressed air and water before the move. In Ontario, electrical work done for hire must be carried out by a Licensed Electrical Contractor under Ontario Regulation 570/05. We schedule the rigging around the disconnect and leave each machine ready for reconnection at the new location.

Do you provide crane service for machinery moves?

Most machinery moves use skates, hydraulic gantries and jack-and-roll systems, so no crane is needed. When a lift does need a crane, a licensed crane partner performs it as part of our move plan, and the crane time is included in your quote. We do not rent out cranes or forklifts.

Can you remove machinery from a closing plant or an auction purchase?

Yes. We rig out, load and remove machinery for plant closures, consolidations and auction buyers across Toronto and the GTA, and we plan the work around the removal dates you have been given. See our plant closure and auction removal page for Toronto, or send us the lot list for a quote.

Which areas around Toronto do you serve?

All of Toronto, including Etobicoke, North York and Scarborough, and the wider GTA: Vaughan and Concord, Markham, Richmond Hill, Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Burlington and Durham Region. We also take machinery moves across southern Ontario, including Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo and London. Send the address with your quote request and we will confirm the crew, route and permits.

Do you move household or office furniture?

No. Rigging-Busters moves industrial machinery and plant equipment only, such as CNC machines, presses, production lines, transformers and generators. For a home or office move, please contact a residential or commercial moving company. If you are moving a machine, a production line or a whole plant in Toronto or the GTA, we are the team to call.
