Rigging-Busters moves CNC machines and machine tools for machine shops, job shops and manufacturing plants across Toronto and the GTA. Our CNC machine movers are machine moving specialists, machinery movers and riggers in one crew: we secure the machine, rig and skid it out, haul it and set it level at the new address, with millwright installation when you need it.

Toronto moves come with their own constraints: tight loading docks in older buildings, City permits for oversize loads, and expressways that oversize loads cannot use. We plan around all three, and around your production schedule, to keep downtime short.

  • Industrial only: CNC machines, machine tools and plant equipment. No household, office or computer moves.
  • One crew, start to finish: rigging, CNC transport, set-in-place, levelling and millwright installation.
  • Quick quotes: we reply within 2–4 business hours. Estimates are free.
  • Where we work: Toronto, ON and the surrounding area, from Etobicoke and North York to Scarborough and the rest of the GTA.

Comprehensive CNC Machine Moving Services in Toronto

From a single machine to a full shop, our machinery moving services in Toronto cover the four parts of every CNC job:

CNC Machine Relocation

Our CNC machine relocation service handles in-plant moves, moves between units of the same industrial building, and machine relocation from one Toronto district to another or out to a new plant in the GTA.

CNC Machine Transport

As a CNC machine transportation company, we haul machines on trailers chosen for their height and weight, chained and blocked with the axes locked. That matters on Toronto routes, where an oversize load may need a City permit, pilot escorts and a detour around the expressways that are closed to excess loads.

CNC Machine Installation

Our CNC machine installation work covers setting the machine on its pad, levelling it, and leaving it ready for your electrician and the OEM start-up visit. Our millwrights can also align conveyors, bar feeders and the rest of the cell.

Customized Moving Solutions

Every plan is built around your floor and your schedule, so these are customized moving solutions: a lathe swapped out over a long weekend, a cell moved in phases while the rest of the shop keeps cutting, or a full machine shop moved during a planned shutdown. Moving a CNC Machine in Toronto: Our 7-Step Process

Every Toronto CNC move follows the same sequence, with a named owner for each step.

  1. Scope: you send the make, model, nameplate weight, photos and both addresses; we confirm the dimensions and footprint.
  2. Site check: doors, loading dock or grade door, freight elevator if there is one, floor capacity and the path out, on site when needed.
  3. Permits and route: if the load is oversize, we apply for the City of Toronto and MTO permits and scout the route 48 hours before the move.
  4. Shop prep: your team or the OEM backs up the control, drains the coolant and removes tooling; your licensed electricians disconnect power under lockout.
  5. Rig-out: we lock the axes, secure the spindle and move the machine on skates, a hydraulic gantry, jack-and-roll or a heavy-capacity forklift.
  6. Haul: the machine is loaded, chained and blocked on a trailer matched to its weight and height.
  7. Set-in-place: we land and level it on the new footprint, ready for reconnection and the OEM start-up; millwright installation is available.

Before Moving Day: What Your Team and the OEM Prepare

Most delays on CNC moves come from preparation, not the lift. Before we arrive, your maintenance team or the machine builder should back up the parameters, offsets and programs, drain the coolant tank, remove tooling and chips, and book the OEM for start-up at the new site. Building access counts too: reserve the loading dock or freight elevator with property management and check its time windows. On the day, our crew fits the shipping brackets or otherwise locks the axes, and secures the spindle and doors.

Rigging Methods for Toronto Shops: Skates, Gantries and Forklifts

  • Machinery skates and low-profile dollies for narrow aisles and older buildings
  • Hydraulic gantries and jack-and-roll where there is no overhead crane or forklift access
  • Heavy-capacity forklifts for loading, unloading and short yard moves
  • Rated slings, shackles and spreader bars sized for each lift
  • Trailers matched to the machine, from flatbeds to lowboys for tall machines
  • A crane lift, with our crane or a licensed partner crane, only when the site calls for it

We pick the method after the site check. Open ground floors usually mean a forklift; low doors, tight bays and older buildings with light floors usually mean skates, a gantry or jack-and-roll.

Toronto Oversize Permits, Escorts and Restricted Expressways

Most CNC machines travel as legal loads. A truck and load that meets or exceeds 4.15 m high, 2.59 m wide, 21.33 m long or 50,000 kg needs a City of Toronto single-trip oversize load permit, which normally takes 7–10 business days, and the route on the permit must be scouted 48 hours before the move. Pilot vehicle escorts are required from 3.7 m wide, 4.15 m high, 24.5 m long or 63,500 kg. Excess loads are not allowed on the Don Valley Parkway, Black Creek Drive, the Allen Expressway, the elevated part of Lake Shore Boulevard West or the Gardiner Expressway from the Humber River east. Highways 401, 427, 400 and 404 need an MTO oversize permit, requested at least 5 business days ahead.

Set-In-Place, Levelling and OEM Start-Up

At the new address we set the machine on its marked footprint and level it on its pads, or on anchors where the builder specifies them. Your licensed electricians reconnect power, and the OEM technician or your team reloads the backup and checks the geometry before production restarts.

CNC Machines We Move in Toronto

Our Toronto CNC movers handle these machines and the equipment around them:

  • CNC lathes, turning centres and mill-turn machines
  • Vertical and horizontal machining centres
  • Bridge mills, gantry mills and 5-axis machines
  • Wire and sinker EDM machines, and surface or cylindrical grinders
  • Press brakes, turret punches and fibre laser cutting systems
  • CNC routers and panel saws for wood, stone, plastics and signs
  • Coordinate measuring machines and other inspection equipment
  • Bar feeders, chip conveyors, coolant tanks and electrical cabinets

Small machines included: a toolroom lathe or a compact mill gets the same axis locking and blocking as a large machining centre. If it is a hobby-size machine that fits through a standard door, a general mover may cost less, and we will say so.

Toronto Industries and Employment Areas We Serve

Toronto’s Employment Areas held over 381,000 jobs in 2025, including 90% of the city’s manufacturing and warehousing employment, according to the City of Toronto’s 2025 Development Activity Bulletin. Tapscott, South Etobicoke and Rexdale-Airport led those areas for proposed projects. We move CNC equipment for job shops and precision machining companies, aerospace and automotive parts suppliers, medical device makers, food equipment fabricators, sign and woodworking shops, and college and university workshops.

Machine Upgrades, Auction Buys and Machinery Removal

Upgrading to a new machine often means the old one has to go. We take the old machine out, load it for its buyer or for storage, then unload and set the new one in the same window. We also pick up machines bought at plant auctions in Toronto and the GTA, following the auctioneer’s rules on who may rig on site and when. For full-plant machinery removal, see plant closure and auction removal in Toronto.

CNC Machine Moving Cost in Toronto: What Affects the Price

Each CNC move is priced as a job once we know the machine and both sites. In Toronto, these factors move the number:

  • Machine size and weight: nameplate weight, height, footprint and loose pieces such as the chip conveyor or bar feeder
  • Building access: loading dock or grade door, freight elevator, door width, ramps and floor capacity at both addresses
  • Method: skates, gantry, jack-and-roll or forklift, or a crane lift (crane time is included in your quote)
  • Permits and route: City of Toronto and MTO permits, pilot escorts, and detours around restricted expressways
  • Extras: crating, short-term storage, removal of an old machine, levelling and millwright installation
  • Timing: evening, weekend and shutdown work, and loading-dock time slots set by building management

Three things lower the cost: lead time, so permits are not rushed; a machine that is already backed up, drained and unplugged when the crew walks in; and grouping several machines into one move. The OEM prices its own preparation and start-up.

For a fair comparison, ask every mover to price rigging, transport and set-in-place together. For a quick range, use our Heavy Lifting & Moving Calculator.

Why Toronto Shops Choose Us for CNC Machine Moving

Toronto machine shops and plants use us as their CNC moving company for these reasons:

  • Industrial work only: machine tools and production equipment, never household moves.
  • One crew for the whole move: rigging, transport, set-in-place and levelling, plus millwright installation.
  • Equipment for tight Toronto sites: our CNC movers bring skates, hydraulic gantries and jack-and-roll, and use a crane only when the lift needs one.
  • Work around production: evenings, weekends and planned shutdowns.
  • Permits and escorts arranged: City of Toronto and MTO permits for oversize loads, and pilot vehicles when the load requires them.
  • Fast replies: quotes within 2–4 business hours.

A good fit: single CNC machines, machine shop and cell moves, machine upgrades, auction pickups and plant relocations in Toronto and the GTA, and dealers who need delivery and set-in-place.

Not a fit: household, office or computer moves, CNC machining or cutting services, buying or selling used machines, machine repair or calibration, and crane rental.

Questions Worth Asking Before You Book

Whoever you hire, ask how they will move the machine and why, who handles the backup and the OEM start-up, whether the quote covers rigging, transport and set-in-place, who applies for City of Toronto and MTO permits and arranges any escorts, and how the machine is insured while it is lifted and hauled. Send every mover the same photos, weight and dates.

CNC Machine Moving in Toronto: FAQ

How much does it cost to move a CNC machine?

The cost to move a CNC machine varies with the size and weight of the machine, the distance it travels and how complex the rigging is. In Toronto, building access, City of Toronto or MTO permits and weekend or shutdown timing also count. We quote each move after seeing the details, and estimates are free. For a rough range, try our Heavy Lifting and Moving Calculator.

How do you move a CNC machine in Toronto?

We confirm the machine data and both sites, then arrange any City of Toronto and MTO permits. Your team or the OEM backs up the control and drains the coolant, and your electricians disconnect power. Our crew locks the axes, secures the spindle, rigs the machine out on skates, a gantry or a forklift, hauls it and sets it level at the new site.

Do I need a permit to move a CNC machine in Toronto?

Only if the truck and load meet or exceed 4.15 m high, 2.59 m wide, 21.33 m long or 50,000 kg. Then the City of Toronto issues a single-trip oversize load permit, which normally takes 7 to 10 business days, and the route must be scouted 48 hours before the move. Provincial highways such as the 401 also need an MTO permit. We apply for both.

Which Toronto roads are closed to oversize loads?

Excess loads are not allowed on the Don Valley Parkway, Black Creek Drive, the Allen Expressway, the elevated part of Lake Shore Boulevard West between Rees Street and Dan Leckie Way, or the Gardiner Expressway from the Humber River east. The former QEW section of the Gardiner west of the Humber is allowed. We plan permitted routes around these roads and scout them before the move.

What are the risks involved in moving a CNC machine?

The main risks are a top-heavy machine tipping during the lift, damage to the ways, ballscrews or spindle if the axes move in transit, coolant spills, and lost accuracy from an out-of-level set-down. In older Toronto buildings, floor capacity and tight doors add risk. We plan around the centre of gravity, lock the axes, block the load and level the machine at the new site.

Who prepares the CNC machine and who restarts it after the move?

Your maintenance team or the machine builder backs up the parameters and programs, drains the coolant and pulls the tooling, then handles the start-up and any accuracy checks at the new site. Your licensed electricians disconnect and reconnect power. Our crew locks the axes, secures the spindle and doors, moves the machine and sets it level on its footprint.

Can you remove our old CNC machine when we upgrade to a new one?

Yes. A machine swap is usually done in one window: we rig out the old machine and load it for its buyer or for storage, then unload the new machine from the delivery truck, move it into position and set it level, ready for the OEM technician. Planning both moves together keeps the gap in production as short as possible.

What are the benefits of hiring a professional CNC machine mover?

A professional mover brings skates, gantries and heavy-capacity forklifts sized to your machine, rated rigging gear, and a plan built around your production, and handles permits and escorts on Toronto routes. The machine is protected from tipping and shifting, and your downtime stays short. You also get one crew and one plan for rigging, transport, set-in-place and levelling.

Which areas of Toronto and the GTA do you cover?

All of Toronto, including South Etobicoke, Rexdale-Airport, Downsview, Keele-Finch, Tapscott, Leaside and the Port Lands, plus Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, Oakville, Burlington and Milton. For shops west of the city, see our CNC machine movers in Mississauga, or send both addresses for a quote.

Do you offer CNC machining or cutting services?

No. We move CNC machines; we do not machine or cut parts, program machines, repair or calibrate them, or buy and sell used equipment. We also do not rent cranes or move homes, offices or computers. For CNC machining in Toronto, contact a machine shop. For moving a CNC machine or any other industrial equipment, send us the details.
