From the first survey to the final set-in-place, we follow the same seven steps, planned with your team to reduce risk and avoid unnecessary downtime:
- Equipment data: make, model, weight, dimensions and lifting points from the manufacturer drawings, both addresses and your delivery dates.
- Route and floor check: the path from the truck to the final pad or room, including doors, corridors, freight elevators, ramps, raised floors and slab loading, plus a floor protection plan.
- Lift plan, permits and site rules: method, crew and timing inside your change window, security escorts, and permits for oversize loads; an MTO oversize/overweight permit should be requested at least 5 business days before the trip.
- Isolation and disconnects by your trades: your licensed electrical contractor isolates, locks out and disconnects power, and your mechanical contractor handles refrigerant, chilled water and fuel lines.

Data Centre Equipment Transport and Permits in Toronto
Large generators, transformers and power modules can exceed the City of Toronto limits for a truck and load: 2.59 m wide, 4.15 m high, 21.33 m long or 50 t. At or above any of those, a single-trip oversize load permit is needed, and processing normally takes 7 to 10 business days. Excess loads are not permitted on the Don Valley Parkway, Black Creek Drive, the Allen Expressway, the elevated section of Lake Shore Boulevard West or the Gardiner Expressway east of the Humber River, so we plan routes around them and add MTO permits for provincial highways.
