Every lift starts on paper. Before our riggers touch a machine, we confirm its weight and centre of gravity, the lifting points, the floor and slab capacity, the overhead clearance and the path to the door. Only then do we pick the method for that room: skates, a gantry, jack-and-roll, or a crane lift through a licensed partner.

That planning keeps people, floors and finished surfaces safe, which matters as much in labs, hospitals and data centres as it does on a factory floor.
Estimates are free. Send us the details of the lift and we will plan the safest way to do it.

How We Rig and Lift Machinery in Ottawa
Our Ottawa riggers work through the same seven steps on every job, whether it is one machine or a whole floor of equipment:
- Scope and photos: what is moving, its make, model, weight and size, and where it goes.
- Walk-through: doors, corridors, elevators or ramps, slab capacity, headroom and the exit route.
- Rigging plan: lifting points and centre of gravity, rated slings and spreader beams, and the method: skates, gantry, jack-and-roll or a partner crane.
- Shutdown and lockout: your licensed electricians or facility team isolate power, air, gas and water.
- Rig and move: the load is lifted, set on skates or dollies and moved along a protected route.
- Load, haul or reposition: onto your carrier, onto our trailer with permits, or straight to a new spot in the same building.
- Set, level and hand over: placed on its footprint, levelled and aligned, ready for reconnection; millwright installation is available.

Rigging Equipment Our Crew Uses
Our mobile rigging crew brings what the lift needs to your site:
- Machinery skates, dollies and toe jacks for low, controlled moves across finished floors
- Hydraulic gantries for lifts in plant rooms, labs and shops that have no overhead crane
- Jack-and-roll systems for very heavy loads raised in stages
- Spreader beams, shackles and rated slings matched to each load’s pick points
- Heavy-capacity lift trucks at the loading dock, to unload trucks and set equipment down
- Crane lifts through licensed crane partners for rooftop and overhead work
Rigging Only or a Full Move
Tell us which part of the job you need:
- Rigging only: our equipment riggers lift, skid and place the load, or load and unload your carrier’s truck. See heavy equipment loading and unloading in Ottawa.
- Full move: machine moving and rigging in one job, with transport, permits, set-in-place and levelling handled by the same crew. See our machinery movers in Ottawa.
Oversize Permits and Truck Routes in Ottawa
When a load goes on the road, we arrange the permits and plan the route. On City of Ottawa roads, a truck and load 4.15 m high, 2.6 m wide, 21 m long or 63,500 kg or more needs an over-dimensional vehicle permit. The City lists processing times of three business days for a single-trip permit, seven for an annual or project permit and 10 for a single-trip superload, and says times grow with project complexity and permit office volume, so we apply early. Oversize moves cannot run in the downtown core from 7:00 to 9:30 a.m. or from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m., and the permits are not valid on posted roads and bridges or during load restrictions. Highway 417 and Highway 416 need an MTO permit, which Ontario asks carriers to request at least 5 business days ahead, and the NCC parkways are closed to commercial vehicles, so we keep loads on truck routes.
Millwright Installation and Levelling
Once the equipment is in its new position, our millwrights shim, level and align it and leave it ready for your licensed electricians and the OEM to reconnect and start up. Large machines that travel in sections are reassembled and aligned on site.

Industries We Serve in Ottawa
Ottawa’s economy leans on technology, government and research, so many of our lifts happen in buildings that stay open: telecom and semiconductor companies, aerospace and defence manufacturers, universities, hospitals and federal labs, data centres and utilities, plus machine shops, printers and equipment dealers across the city’s business parks.
Data Centre and Power Equipment in Ottawa and Kanata
Generators, UPS modules and battery cabinets, switchgear, transformers and cooling units are rigged in on skates or with a gantry, or lifted to a roof or yard by a licensed crane partner, then set on their pads and levelled for your electrical contractor. Server racks and cabinets can travel with them as loads once your IT firm has powered them down and secured them; the IT work itself stays with that firm.
This work is growing in the capital. Hydro Ottawa told city council in June 2026 that it had 34 large-load connection requests totalling 1,075 MW, with data centres making up 653 MW of them, and some transformers now take two to four years to procure. A federal 60 MW secure data centre for the region is planned, with a design-build tender expected in 2027. Long lead times mean gear often lands before its pad is ready, so we can store it until the site is. For the same work in the GTA, see our data centre equipment rigging page.
Lab, Research and Production Equipment
In labs, hospitals and production areas we protect floors and finishes, move heavy instruments, furnaces, presses and test rigs on skates or gantries, and agree routes, elevators and working hours with your facility and safety teams. Your staff or the OEM disconnect, decontaminate and recommission the equipment.

Rigging Cost in Ottawa: What Affects the Price
Every rigging job is priced on its own, after we see the details or the site. What moves the price:
- The load: weight, size, centre of gravity and how fragile it is
- The building: doors, elevators, slab capacity, headroom, stairs and loading docks
- The method: skates and gantries indoors, jack-and-roll for the heaviest units, or a partner crane for rooftop and yard lifts (crane time is included in your quote)
- Rigging only or a full move: transport, permits and escorts are added only when the load goes on the road
- Extra work: floor and elevator protection, crating, disassembly and reassembly, anchoring, levelling and millwright installation
- Timing: after-hours, weekend and shutdown work, and downtown time windows
One quote that covers the whole job is the easiest to compare. For a rough figure first, try the Heavy Lifting & Moving Calculator.

Industrial Rigging in Ottawa: FAQ
Industrial rigging is the planned work of lifting, moving and setting heavy machinery and plant equipment. Riggers calculate the weight and centre of gravity, pick rated slings, beams, gantries or jacks, and move the load without damaging it or the building. In Ottawa that often means generators, transformers, lab equipment and production machines in buildings that stay in use.
A rigging company plans and carries out heavy lifts and equipment moves. Our crew surveys the site, works out a rigging plan, lifts and skids the equipment, loads or unloads trucks, and sets each piece in place and levels it. We bring the riggers and the rigging gear for the job; we do not sell or rent equipment.
Yes. Many Ottawa facilities only need riggers: lifting a machine onto skates, moving it within the building, loading or unloading a carrier’s truck, or placing new equipment when it arrives. If the load also needs transport, the same crew can haul it with permits and set it in place. For truck loading and unloading on its own, see heavy equipment loading and unloading in Ottawa.
Rigging is quoted per job. The price depends on the weight and size of the load, building access and floor limits, the lifting method, whether transport and permits are needed, and timing such as after-hours or downtown work. Try our Heavy Lifting and Moving Calculator for a rough range.
Only when the load goes on the road and is oversize or overweight. On City of Ottawa roads, a truck and load 4.15 m high, 2.6 m wide, 21 m long or 63,500 kg or more needs an over-dimensional vehicle permit; a single trip takes three business days to process, a superload 10. Highways 417 and 416 need an MTO permit. We arrange both and plan the route.
Not usually. Inside a building we use skates, hydraulic gantries, jack-and-roll systems and heavy-capacity lift trucks. A crane is needed when equipment has to go onto a roof, over a wall or through an upper-floor opening; a licensed crane partner then performs the lift as part of our rigging plan, and the crane time is included in your quote.
Heavy rigging is rigging for loads that are too heavy, tall or awkward for a forklift or a simple lift, such as transformers, large presses, generators and long machine frames. It relies on hydraulic gantries, jack-and-roll systems and machinery skates, with crane lifts by licensed partners when the load must go overhead, and it always starts with a rigging plan.
Rigging is everything that prepares a load to move: choosing lifting points, slings, shackles, spreader beams or a gantry so it stays balanced. Lifting is the raise itself, by gantry, jacks, lift truck or crane. Our riggers handle both, then roll or skid the equipment to its new position and set it down level.
All of Ottawa, including Kanata, Stittsville, Nepean, Gloucester, Orléans and the business parks around the airport, plus Carp, Arnprior, Almonte, Carleton Place, Kemptville, Rockland, Russell, Embrun and Casselman. We also take longer moves across eastern Ontario. For the Quebec side of the river, see industrial rigging in Gatineau.
Yes. Our crew rigs and sets generators, UPS modules and battery cabinets, switchgear, transformers and cooling units in Ottawa and Kanata data halls and yards, with crane lifts through licensed partners when a unit goes to a roof or pad. Eastern Ontario jobs are planned as a mobilisation, so send the equipment list early. See our data centre equipment rigging page for the method.
No. We are an industrial rigging contractor, so our riggers do the lift with our own skates, gantries and gear. We do not sell or rent rigging equipment, forklifts or cranes, and we do not do scaffolding, swing stages or structural steel. For a machinery or equipment lift, move or installation in Ottawa, send us the details.
