Heavy press lifted with slings by a hydraulic boom lift onto a lowboy trailer in a shop

Rigging-Busters moves, rigs and installs industrial machinery in Oakville and Burlington: a stamping press out of a plant off the QEW, a machining cell into a new unit near Burloak Drive, or a full production line from one Halton building to the next. Our riggers take each machine off its anchors, move it on skates, jacks, a gantry or a heavy forklift, load and haul it, then set and level it at the new site.

We work for plant and maintenance managers, tooling and engineering teams, equipment dealers, auction buyers and the contractors fitting out new buildings along the QEW and Highways 403 and 407.

  • Industrial only: machines, presses, production lines and plant equipment, never household or office moves.
  • One crew from rig-out to set-in-place: loading, the haul and unloading are part of the same plan.
  • Minimum job: 3,500 CAD. Most rigged machine moves cost more, and the written quote shows the full price before work starts.
  • Quick replies: we usually reply within 2–4 business hours, and estimates are free.
  • Insured: liability and workers’ compensation insurance (WSIB in Ontario), with a certificate of insurance on request.

Machinery Moving Across Oakville and Burlington’s Employment Areas

Halton’s plants sit in a few employment areas strung along the QEW and Highways 403 and 407. We work in all of them:

  • West Oakville: the industrial streets along Speers Road, Wyecroft Road and South Service Road West on both sides of Bronte Road, including Bronte Station Business Park and, on the Burlington border, Burloak Business Park.
  • Winston Park and Bristol Circle: business parks near the Highway 403 and QEW junction, between Dundas Street and the QEW.
  • QEW East: the employment lands around Ford Drive and Chartwell Road.
  • North Oakville: newer employment lands south of Highway 407.
  • Burlington’s QEW corridor: Mainway, Harvester Road and the North and South Service Roads, from Guelph Line to Burloak Drive.
  • Burlington’s 407 corridor: employment lands on the south side of Highway 407, between the Dundas Street and Appleby Line interchanges.
  • Aldershot: the employment lands on both sides of Highway 403, next to Hamilton.

The older plants off the QEW often have low doors, tight docks and machine pits; the newer buildings near Highway 407 have high bays but long runs across the floor. We look at both ends before we choose the method and the equipment.

What We Move in Oakville and Burlington

Not a Fit

We don’t do household or office moves, vehicles, general freight, or forklift or crane rental on its own, and we don’t take jobs below our 3,500 CAD minimum. A moving company or a rental firm will serve you better for those.

Presses, Automotive Tooling and Electrical-Equipment Plants

Much of Halton’s heavy machinery sits in two kinds of plant. Automotive and metal-forming shops run presses, coil lines and welding cells that sit on pits and anchors. Electrical-equipment plants run slitting and cut-to-length lines, presses and test bays, and ship heavy finished units.

Press and Line Moves

A press move starts with the drawings: the press weight and centre of gravity, how it splits for shipping (crown, uprights, bed and slide), and the pit or foundation at the new site. We plan the lift points, the order of disassembly and the trailer for each piece. At the new site, the pieces are reassembled, set on their marks and levelled, and your press technician or the manufacturer handles the electrical and hydraulic commissioning.

A coil line or a robot cell moves the same way: each machine is tagged and photographed before it comes apart, so it goes back in the same place and order.

What’s Changing in Halton

Two public projects show how Halton’s industry is changing. Ford’s Oakville Assembly Complex now builds F-250 to F-450 Super Duty trucks (Ford), and Tempel Canada is investing $132 million in a new 250,000 sq ft plant in Burlington for transformer cores and electrical steel laminations (Ontario Newsroom, August 2026). They are named here as context, not as our clients. When a plant adds lines or moves into a new building, its presses, coil lines and test equipment have to be rigged, moved and set on a fixed schedule, and that is the work we plan.

Labs and Technical Facilities

Oakville and Burlington also have labs, test centres and clean production rooms. Heavy lab units move with the same rigging care as production machines; see lab and medical equipment movers in Mississauga and Hamilton. For regulated production equipment, see pharmaceutical equipment relocation in Ontario.

Permits for Machinery Moves in Oakville and Burlington

Up to four road authorities can be involved in one Halton move, and each needs its own permit for an oversize or overweight load on its roads:

Halton Region Roads

In Oakville, Dundas Street, Upper Middle Road and Winston Churchill Boulevard (shared with Peel Region) are Halton Region roads, as are Trafalgar Road and Ford Drive north of Cornwall Road and Bronte Road and Dorval Drive north of Speers Road. In Burlington, Dundas Street, Upper Middle Road, and Brant Street, Guelph Line, Appleby Line and Burloak Drive north of the QEW are Regional. Wyecroft Road is Regional only on the new link between Burloak Drive and Bronte Road; east of Bronte Road it is a Town road. An annual oversize permit covers loads up to 3.99 m wide, 4.25 m high and 36.7 m long as a combination. Anything bigger, or heavier than 63,500 kg, needs a single-trip oversize/overweight permit. The application goes in by email with the route, a description of the load and an axle diagram. Allow five business days for processing, or apply at least 45 days ahead for loads over 120,000 kg. The single-trip fee is about $5,700, of which $5,306 is a refundable damage deposit, and the carrier must survey the route for clearances before the move.

Single-trip moves run in daylight only, outside the 6:30–9 a.m. and 3:30–6 p.m. peaks, and never on weekends, statutory holidays or from December 24 to January 3. A load 4.0–4.99 m wide, over 4.85 m high or 36.75–45.74 m long needs a private escort (two on two-lane roads). A load 5 m wide or more, or 45.74 m long or more, needs two police escorts, and police may also be required for overweight loads.

Town of Oakville Roads

On Town roads, an oversize or overweight load needs a Town permit, for a single move or for the year. The application must reach the Town at least five business days before the move, with a liability insurance certificate naming the Town and sign-offs from the utilities and Halton Regional Police. Where the route crosses their lines, the Town also asks for proof that Hydro One, Metrolinx and CN have been contacted about clearances. Both Town permits limit moves to 9:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.–6 a.m. (a single-move permit can authorize other times), and none run on Sundays or statutory holidays. Occupying the road, for example to set up a crane, needs a separate temporary street occupation permit.

City of Burlington Roads

Burlington issues single-trip and annual oversize permits for City roads. A single-trip permit costs $185.48 with five or more business days’ notice and $259.68 with less; an annual permit costs $405.60 and needs at least five business days’ notice. Keeping equipment on a City road needs a road occupancy permit ($108.82 plus a $1,000 damage deposit).

QEW and Highway 403

On provincial highways such as the QEW and Highway 403, an oversize or overweight load needs an MTO oversize/overweight permit; apply for a single trip at least five business days ahead.

Load-Restricted Roads

Halton’s oversize permits don’t allow travel on roads with axle-load restrictions or truck prohibitions, and Oakville’s annual permit doesn’t cover Town roads with posted load limits. We plan heavy hauls around them.

Machinery Moving Cost in Oakville and Burlington

We price each move as a job, once we know the machine and both sites. These are the things that move the price:

  • The machine: its weight and size, how it splits, and how many units move
  • The method: skates and jacks, a gantry, a heavy forklift or a crane lift
  • Access: doors, docks, floor capacity, pits and overhead lines at both ends
  • The haul and permits: distance, trailer type, and Halton, Town, City or MTO permits
  • Your schedule: shutdown windows, and night or weekend work
  • Installation: levelling, anchoring and alignment at the new site

Jobs start at 3,500 CAD, and most rigged machine moves cost more. For a rough range, use the Heavy Lifting and Moving Calculator, or see how jobs are priced on our pricing page.

Machinery Movers in Oakville and Burlington: FAQ

How much does it cost to move a machine in Oakville or Burlington?

Each move is quoted on its own: the machine’s weight and size, how it splits, access at both plants, the haul and any Halton, Town, City or MTO permits set the price. Jobs start at 3,500 CAD, and most rigged machine moves cost more. For a rough range, use our Heavy Lifting and Moving Calculator.

Do I need a permit to move a machine on Halton Region roads?

Yes, when the load is over the legal size or weight. An annual oversize permit covers loads up to 3.99 m wide, 4.25 m high and 36.7 m long; anything bigger, or over 63,500 kg, needs a single-trip permit. Allow five business days for processing (apply at least 45 days ahead for loads over 120,000 kg), and the carrier must survey the route first.

What does the Town of Oakville need for an oversize load?

A Town permit, applied for at least five business days before the move, with an insurance certificate naming the Town and sign-offs from the utilities and Halton Regional Police. Town permits limit moves to 9:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.–6 a.m., and never on Sundays or statutory holidays.

How much notice does Burlington need for an oversize load permit?

At least five business days for the standard fee; a single-trip permit costs $185.48 with that notice and $259.68 with less. Keeping a crane or other equipment on a City road also needs a road occupancy permit.

Can you move a stamping press?

Yes. We work from the press drawings: weight, centre of gravity, how it splits, and the pit or foundation at the new site. Each piece is rigged, loaded and hauled with the permits it needs, then reassembled, set and levelled, and your press technician or the manufacturer commissions it.

Do you move production lines into new plants in Halton?

Yes. Lines are moved in an order that fits your schedule, often during a shutdown, and each machine is tagged so it goes back in the right place. See plant relocation in Milton for how we plan a full plant move.

Can you set new equipment delivered to our plant?

Yes. We unload it from the truck or container, uncrate it if needed, move it in and set it on its marks, levelled and anchored, ready for the manufacturer’s technician. If the building isn’t ready, the machine can go into storage until it is.

Do you use cranes in Oakville and Burlington?

When a machine has to go onto a roof, into a pit or over an obstacle, yes: with our crane or a partner crane, planned by our riggers. We don’t rent out cranes on their own, and most machine moves inside a plant need no crane at all.

Do you move lab equipment in Burlington and Oakville?

Yes, the heavy units: autoclaves, freezers, environmental chambers, glove boxes and similar equipment, with the lab or the manufacturer handling disconnection and testing. See lab and medical equipment movers in Hamilton for how these moves run.

What do you need from me for an exact quote?

The machine’s make, model, weight and dimensions, photos or drawings of it and the way out, both addresses, the access at each end, whether it needs installation, your dates and your site rules. Send them with the quote request form, and we usually reply within 2–4 business hours.
