Laminating line standing in a clean plant, prepared to be skidded and moved

Rigging-Busters rigs, moves and sets in place heavy lab, pharmaceutical and medical equipment in Mississauga and across Peel Region. We take the units that lab movers in Mississauga leave for a rigging crew: autoclaves and steam sterilizers, bioreactors and process skids, stability and environmental chambers, emptied ultra-low freezers, fume hoods and isolators, cleanroom tools, and the generators and switchgear in hospital and plant mechanical rooms.

Pharma and biologics plants, hospitals, university and private research labs, and contract manufacturers hire us directly, while general contractors and lab relocation services bring us in for the heavy lifts. We are machine movers first, so every lift is planned around weight, centre of gravity and the floor the unit lands on.

  • Heavy and sensitive units only: lab, pharma, hospital and production equipment that needs rigging. No household, office or benchtop packing.
  • One crew start to finish: rigging, transport, set-in-place, levelling and millwright installation.
  • Answers fast: quotes within 2–4 business hours, and estimates are free.
  • Minimum job: 3,500 CAD. Most industrial jobs cost more, and your written quote shows the full price.
  • Coverage: Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Milton, Etobicoke and the rest of Peel and Halton.

Moving Laboratory Equipment in Mississauga: Our Process

Each lab, pharma or hospital move follows seven steps, from the first nameplate photo to the vendor’s start-up:

  1. List what moves: make, model, weight and dimensions of each unit, its current room and its new one, plus your site’s equipment move or change-control form.
  2. Walk the route: our riggers check doors, corridors, airlocks, freight elevators and floor loading, and plan protection for epoxy and vinyl floors.
  3. Permits and timing: City of Mississauga or Region of Peel permits for oversize loads, an MTO oversize permit on provincial highways, and a move window that fits production or patient care.
  4. Release by your team: units emptied, cleaned and released by QA, biosafety cabinets decontaminated, and utilities isolated by your licensed electricians and process trades.
  5. Rig and secure: skates, a hydraulic gantry or jack-and-roll; units wrapped where GMP rules require it, then strapped and braced for the trailer.
  6. Haul: on a trailer chosen for the load, using the permitted route.
  7. Place and level: each unit lands on its marks, is levelled and anchored as specified, and is handed over for reconnection, start-up and requalification.

Equipment Our Riggers Use in Mississauga Plants and Labs

  • Machinery skates and low-profile dollies, cleaned before they go into controlled areas
  • Hydraulic gantries for lifting units off plinths and skids indoors
  • Jack-and-roll when a bioreactor or tank is too heavy for skates alone
  • Heavy-capacity forklifts at docks and in yards
  • Trailers matched to the load, with tall or long units on a lowboy
  • Our crane or a partner crane for rooftop units or lifts through an opening (see crane rigging and heavy lifting)

Excess Load Permits in Mississauga and Peel

Lab and pharma units rarely need a road permit, but tall autoclaves, long skids and heavy tanks can. The City of Mississauga issues an excess load moving permit for loads over Highway Traffic Act height, width or weight limits. It takes at least five business days to process, or fourteen for a superload, and single trips need at least two private escort vehicles. Region of Peel roads have their own permit, and the Region asks for single and multiple-trip applications at least ten business days before the move. Provincial highways need an MTO permit, applied for at least five business days ahead.

Set-In-Place, Reconnection and Requalification

After set-in-place and levelling, your licensed electricians reconnect power, because electrical work for hire in Ontario requires a Licensed Electrical Contractor under O. Reg. 570/05. Process trades reconnect water, steam, gases and drains, and your validation team or the OEM runs the requalification your quality system calls for. Biosafety cabinets have to be tested again after relocation under the Canadian Biosafety Handbook, so a certifier decontaminates them before the move and checks them afterwards.

Mississauga’s Life Sciences Cluster

The City of Mississauga describes its life sciences sector as the second-largest in Canada by employment, with more than 470 companies and over 25,000 employees. Bora Pharmaceuticals bought GSK’s Mississauga plant in 2020 as its first North American manufacturing site and headquarters, and in 2021 Resilience Biotechnologies announced a 35,000 sq ft expansion of its Mississauga site for vaccines and other biologics. Labs and plants sit in employment areas such as Sheridan Park Corporate Centre, which the City’s Official Plan calls a unique science and technology park, Meadowvale Corporate Centre and the Airport Corporate Centre.

GMP and Cleanroom Moves: Who Does What

In a GMP area our crew works under your procedures: gowning, cleaning of tools and skates, material airlocks and the change control your quality team issues. Your staff or a lab moving company packs samples, reagents and benchtop instruments, validation staff or the OEM requalify equipment after the move, and cold-chain couriers carry frozen material. MRI, CT and X-ray systems are de-installed and installed by the OEM, and we can rig and move them under the OEM’s direction. For tablet presses, freeze dryers and fill-finish lines, see how we move GMP production equipment under your change control. See our MRI and medical imaging rigging and LINAC rigging pages for Ontario.

Hospital Projects: Trillium Health Partners

Trillium Health Partners is building the Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital, where concrete pouring for the next phase began in June 2026. The project adds over 350 new private beds. Redevelopments like this move sterilizers, lab analyzers and plant-room gear from old wings to new ones in phases while the hospital keeps running, and that is the medical equipment relocation work our riggers plan for.

Food and beverage plants have their own page: food processing equipment movers in Brampton and Mississauga. For machine tools, presses and full lines, see our machinery movers in Mississauga or industrial rigging services in Mississauga.

Storage: skidded or crated units can wait in storage between sites when a new suite is late. Samples and anything that needs power stay with your team.

Lab and Pharma Equipment Moving Cost in Mississauga

Every quote is built from your unit list or a walk-through. The price depends on:

  • Size, weight and balance of each unit
  • Access: airlocks, gowning rooms, freight elevators, door widths and floor loading at both sites
  • Work windows: shutdowns, night or weekend shifts, and hospital quiet hours
  • Method: skates, a gantry, jack-and-roll, or our crane or a partner crane, with crane time included in the quote
  • Road side: distance, City, Peel or MTO permits, and escorts for oversize loads
  • Extras: wrapping for controlled areas, crating, storage between sites and millwright levelling

Why Mississauga Labs and Pharma Plants Call Our Riggers

  • Rigging is the whole job: we move the heavy units, not office contents.
  • Your procedures, our crew: gowning, cleaning and change control are followed on site.
  • One crew from rig-out to levelling, with our crane or a partner crane when a lift needs one.
  • Quotes in 2–4 business hours, and estimates are free.
  • Permits and escorts arranged with the City, the Region and the MTO.
  • Insured: liability and workers’ compensation insurance (WSIB in Ontario), with a certificate of insurance on request.

A good fit: pharma, biologics and contract manufacturing plants, hospital and university labs, research park tenants and general contractors in Mississauga and Peel, plus lab movers and laboratory relocation services that need a rigging crew for the heavy units.

Not a fit: hospital bed moving and home medical, mobility or disability equipment; medical supply deliveries; gym and fitness equipment; IT or computer moves; household and office moves; specimen couriers; and packing benchtop instruments or chemicals.

A line or a sterilizer that is down costs output and patient time, so we plan Mississauga moves around your shutdown and release dates.

Mississauga Lab, Pharma and Medical Equipment Moving: FAQ

What kind of laboratory and medical equipment can you move?

Units heavy enough to need rigging: bioreactors, fermenters and process skids, filling and packaging lines, autoclaves and glassware washers, stability chambers and large incubators, ultra-low freezers once emptied, fume hoods, isolators, cleanroom tools, and hospital plant such as chillers and switchgear. Glassware, small instruments, reagents and samples are packed by your staff or a specialist lab mover working beside us.

What measures do you take to ensure the safe transportation of my equipment?

We measure the route and check floor loading before moving anything, then pick skates, a gantry or jack-and-roll to suit the unit. In controlled areas, tools and skates are cleaned and the unit is wrapped as your procedures require. On the road, units are strapped and braced on a trailer matched to the load, then levelled on their marks at the new site.

What if I need to store my lab or medical equipment temporarily?

When a new suite in Mississauga or elsewhere in Peel is late, skidded or crated units can go into storage and come back to you once the room is ready, when we set them in place and level them. Samples, reagents, product and anything that must stay powered or cold remain under your own control rather than in storage.

What should I look for when hiring a service for moving medical equipment?

Look for riggers who will plan the move around each unit’s weight and centre of gravity, use skates, gantries or jack-and-roll rather than manpower, and arrange any permits. The quote should cover rigging, transport and set-in-place together, and say who disconnects utilities, who follows your site or GMP procedures, and who restarts and requalifies the equipment afterwards.

Do you need a permit to move oversize lab equipment in Mississauga?

Only when the load exceeds Highway Traffic Act limits. The City of Mississauga then issues an excess load moving permit, which takes at least five business days, or fourteen for a superload, with two private escorts on single trips. Peel Regional roads need a Region permit, applied for at least ten business days ahead, and the 401, 403, 410 and QEW need an MTO permit. We arrange them.

Can your crew work inside a GMP pharmaceutical plant in Mississauga?

Yes. Our riggers follow your GMP procedures: gowning, cleaning of tools and skates before they enter controlled areas, use of material airlocks, and moves only under the change control your quality team issues. Your validation team or the OEM requalifies the equipment once it is set in place, and we schedule the move around your production shutdown.

Do you offer equipment relocation services for a whole lab or plant?

We handle the heavy part: every unit that needs rigging, its transport and its set-in-place at the new site, coordinated with your lab moving company, trades and validation staff. For a full production site, our plant relocation services in Mississauga cover machine lines as well. Send the equipment list and both addresses, and we will plan the sequence with you.

How much does it cost to move heavy lab or pharma equipment in Mississauga?

It depends on each unit’s weight and size, access at both sites, airlocks and elevators, work windows, the lifting method, distance and any City, Peel or MTO permits. Every move is quoted on its own, quotes come back within 2–4 business hours, and estimates are free. For a rough range, try our Heavy Lifting and Moving Calculator.

Do you move hospital beds, mobility aids or disability equipment?

No. Hospital bed moving and the delivery of home medical, mobility or disability equipment are jobs for a medical supply company or a general mover, as are gym equipment, computers and office furniture. We rig heavy lab, pharmaceutical, hospital-plant and production equipment in Mississauga and Peel, such as sterilizers, process skids, chambers and freezer banks.

Which areas around Mississauga do you serve?

All of Mississauga, from Meadowvale and Sheridan Park to the Airport Corporate Centre, plus Brampton, Caledon, Oakville, Milton, Halton Hills, Burlington and Etobicoke. For labs in Toronto, see our lab equipment movers in Toronto. Send the site address with your quote request and we will confirm the crew, the route and any permits.
