Heavy equipment and machinery movers: CNC machine and control cabinet on machinery skates

Guelph’s precision machining plants, auto-parts suppliers and food processors need their industrial machinery and heavy equipment relocated without losing alignment or production time. Our machinery movers and riggers cover the full scope of industrial machinery moving, from rigging, lifting and erecting to loading and unloading, relocation and transportation, for one CNC machine or a complete production line, in Guelph and across Wellington County.

Hire one machine moving company to plan the job, keep downtime short and leave each machine set, level and ready for reconnection: that is how we work for auto-parts and precision machining plants, food and beverage processors, plastics and packaging manufacturers, research labs and equipment dealers.

  • Industrial only: we don’t do household, student, office or furniture moves.
  • One crew from first lift to final level: rigging, transport, set-in-place and millwright installation.
  • Quotes in 2–4 business hours.
  • Where: Guelph and Wellington County, plus Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge and Halton; see the areas we cover.

Crew moving a large industrial machine on steel cribbing with a heavy-capacity forklift

Precision machines are moved by the numbers. We confirm the weight, centre of gravity, pick points and floor capacity, and trace the route from the foundation to the truck, before choosing skates, a hydraulic gantry, jack-and-roll or a pick by one of our licensed crane partners.

Large machining centre on machinery skates, ready to be moved

Planned that way, a machining centre arrives undamaged, the floor stays intact and the production plan holds, whether the machine is going to another bay, another Guelph plant or across Ontario.

How We Move Heavy Machinery in Guelph

A Guelph move runs in seven steps. City oversized-load permits are valid only in daylight on weekdays outside rush hours, so the schedule is built around them:

  1. Details first: the machine’s make, model, weight and size, a few photos, both addresses and your dates.
  2. Site check: doors, floors, docks, overhead clearance, anchor bolts, lift points and the way out.
  3. Plan, route and permits: method, crew and timing, an MTO single-trip permit for the Hanlon Expressway and Highway 401, and a City of Guelph or Wellington County permit for local roads.
  4. Isolation: a licensed electrical contractor disconnects the power, and your maintenance team shuts off air, coolant and water.
  5. Rig and skid: rated slings, skates, gantries or jack-and-roll bring the machine to the dock, where it is loaded, braced and secured.
  6. Transport: on a tilt-deck, flatbed or lowboy (float) trailer sized to the load, with escorts when the permit requires them.
  7. Set in place: levelled on the new footprint and ready for reconnection, with millwright installation if you need it.

Equipment Our Crew Uses

  • Skates and dollies for low, controlled moves across finished shop floors
  • Hydraulic gantries where a bay has no overhead crane
  • Heavy-capacity lift trucks to load trailers and place machines on their pads
  • Jack-and-roll systems for heavy machining centres and presses
  • Tilt-deck, flatbed and lowboy (float) trailers for heavy equipment transport and delivery
  • Crane picks by licensed crane partners for outdoor or overhead lifts

Machinery Transport and Permits in Guelph

Heavy equipment transport and delivery in and out of Guelph comes with the permits and escorts arranged. On Guelph streets an oversized load needs a City of Guelph oversized vehicle permit from Transportation Services, requested at least five business days ahead. The permit is valid in daylight only, never from 7 to 9 a.m. or 4 to 6 p.m., and not on Saturdays, Sundays or statutory holidays, and a load wider than 3.65 m on a two-lane road needs a Guelph Police escort booked at least seven days in advance. County roads need a Wellington County permit with 10 business days’ notice, and the Hanlon Expressway (Highway 6) and Highway 401 are covered by the MTO permit.

Millwright Installation and Levelling

At the new site our millwrights seat each machine on its anchors or levelling pads, bring it to level and into alignment, and hand it over for your electricians to reconnect. Long transfer lines and large machining centres that ship in sections are rebuilt and squared at the destination, in Guelph or anywhere in the region.

Industries We Serve

Manufacturing is the biggest part of Guelph’s economy, built largely on auto parts. Linamar, the city’s largest private employer, has its head office here, and the company is putting more than CAD 1 billion into six projects that expand and retool its Ontario facilities (Invest Ontario, September 2025). Guelph and Wellington County are also home to more than 90 agri-food companies, alongside the University of Guelph’s food and agriculture research. We move equipment for auto-parts and precision machining plants, food and beverage processors, plastics and packaging manufacturers, research labs, and dealers and auction buyers.

How We Move CNC Machines and Machining Centres

Machining centres move best when they are prepared properly. Your staff or the OEM record the offsets and parameters and empty the coolant tank; our riggers bolt on transit brackets, fix the axes in place and support the spindle. We then move the machine on skates, a gantry or a heavy-capacity lift truck, brace it upright for the trip and level it on arrival, ready for the OEM technician to recommission.

Production Line and Plant Relocations

Moving a line means moving a sequence. Every machine and joint gets a tag and a photo before it is unbolted, equipment travels in rebuild order, and each unit is set on its marks, levelled and aligned. Power is disconnected and reconnected by your licensed electricians. Moving a whole facility, for example into the Hanlon Creek Business Park? See factory and plant relocation in Guelph.

Machinery Moving Cost in Guelph: What Affects the Price

Pricing for each Guelph move is set from your details or a site visit. What changes the price:

  • The machines: weight, size, centre of gravity and how many there are
  • Access at both sites: ceiling height, door width, docks, stairs and floor loading
  • Lifting gear: skates, a gantry or jack-and-roll, or partner crane time billed in minimum hours
  • Permits and escorts: City of Guelph, Wellington County and MTO permits, and a police escort for loads over 3.65 m wide on two-lane roads
  • Permit hours: daylight, weekday-only windows on City roads shape the schedule
  • Extra work: taking machines apart and rebuilding them, crating, storage and millwright installation
  • Timing in the plant: shutdown windows, nights and weekends

Comparing movers is simpler when each quote covers rigging, transport and set-in-place. For a first range, open the machinery moving cost calculator. All quotes are in Canadian dollars (CAD).

Guelph Machinery Moving: FAQ

What are industrial machinery movers?

Also known as machine moving companies, equipment movers or industrial riggers, industrial machinery movers relocate plant equipment rather than household goods. They plan the lift, rig the machine and skid it out, truck it, and set and level it at the new site, often with millwright installation. In Guelph that includes CNC machining centres, auto-parts lines and food processing equipment.

How much does it cost to move machinery in Guelph?

Each Guelph move is priced separately. Weight and size, access at both sites, the lifting method, distance, permits and police escorts for wide loads, and timing all count, and City permits allow only weekday daylight moves, which shapes the schedule. Our Heavy Lifting and Moving Calculator gives a rough range, and the machine details get you a firm quote.

Do you need a permit to move oversized machinery in Guelph?

Usually. A City of Guelph oversized vehicle permit is required on city streets; it is valid in daylight only, never in the 7 to 9 a.m. or 4 to 6 p.m. rush, and not on weekends or statutory holidays. Loads wider than 3.65 m on two-lane roads need a Guelph Police escort. Wellington County and the MTO issue permits for their own roads, and we handle all of them.

How far ahead should I book a machinery move in Guelph?

Give us as much notice as you can. The City of Guelph wants oversized vehicle permit applications at least five business days before the move, Wellington County asks for 10 business days on county roads, and the MTO needs at least 5 business days. A police escort is booked at least seven days ahead, and line moves or plant relocations are planned weeks out, around your shutdown.

How do you move a CNC machine?

Your staff or the OEM record the offsets and parameters and empty the coolant; we bolt on transit brackets, fix the axes and support the spindle. The machine is lifted with a gantry, jacks or a heavy-capacity lift truck, moved on skates, braced upright on the trailer and levelled at the new site for the OEM technician to recommission.

Can you move food and beverage processing equipment?

Yes. Mixers, ovens, fillers, conveyors, brewing tanks and packaging machines are moved around your sanitation and shutdown schedule. Each line is tagged and photographed so it goes back together in order, and stainless and food-contact surfaces are wrapped for transit. Your own team handles wash-down and food-safety sign-off before production restarts, and your licensed electricians reconnect power.

Do you install and level machinery after the move?

Yes. Once the truck is unloaded, our millwrights place each machine, level it, align it with its neighbours and hand it over for reconnection. Lines and big machines shipped in sections are rebuilt and aligned on site. Ontario requires a licensed electrical contractor for electrical work done for hire, so your licensed electricians disconnect and reconnect the power.

What are machinery riggers?

A rigger works out how a load can be lifted safely: where its centre of gravity sits, which pick points and rated slings to use, and whether to raise, lower or skid it on skates, gantries or jack-and-roll. We also take rigging-only jobs in Guelph plants, such as shifting a machine to another bay. Details are on our industrial rigging services in Guelph page.

Which areas around Guelph do you serve?

Every part of Guelph, from the Hanlon Creek Business Park and the Woodlawn Road and Silvercreek Parkway industrial area to the York Road and Watson Parkway east end, plus Wellington County: Puslinch and Aberfoyle, Rockwood, Fergus and Elora, Erin, and Acton in Halton Hills. Loads also go between Guelph and Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge, Milton, Brampton and Hamilton.

Do you move household or office furniture?

We don’t. Our work is limited to industrial machinery and plant equipment: CNC machines, production lines, presses and food processing equipment. Home, student and office moves in Guelph are best handled by a residential or commercial moving company. When a machine, a production line or an entire plant has to move, send the details and we will plan the job.
