Large machining centre on machinery skates, ready to be moved

Rigging-Busters moves, rigs and installs industrial machinery in Cambridge: a horizontal machining centre into a shop in the L.G. Lovell park, a robot cell during a retooling shutdown, or a whole plant from an old building in Galt to a new one near Highway 401. Our riggers take each machine off its foundation, move it on skates, jacks, a gantry or a heavy forklift, load and haul it, then set it at the new site.

We work for plant engineers, maintenance and tooling teams, machine-tool dealers, auction buyers and builders finishing new plants in the Highway 401 business parks.

  • Industrial only: machine tools, production lines and plant equipment, never household or office moves.
  • The same riggers at both ends: rig-out, loading, the haul, unloading and set-in-place in one plan.
  • Minimum job: 3,500 CAD. Most rigged machine moves cost more, and the written quote shows the full price before work starts.
  • Quick replies: we usually reply within 2–4 business hours, and estimates are free.
  • Insured: liability and workers’ compensation insurance (WSIB in Ontario), with a certificate of insurance on request.

For a first budget figure, the Heavy Lifting & Moving Calculator gives a rough price range in a few minutes.

Machinery Moving Across Cambridge’s Industrial Areas

Cambridge’s plants are spread between the newer parks along Highway 401 and the older industrial streets of the three original towns. We work in all of them:

  • Boxwood Business Park and Fountain Street: north Cambridge, west of Speedsville Road along the Highway 401 corridor, next to the city’s largest auto plant.
  • iPort Cambridge: the newer industrial and logistics lands between Allendale Road and Middle Block Road, off Fountain Street.
  • L.G. Lovell Industrial Park: east of Hespeler Road, between Pinebush Road and Can-Amera Parkway, with Franklin Boulevard running through it to Highway 401.
  • Galt, Preston and Hespeler: older industrial buildings in the three original town centres, where doors, floors and freight elevators set the method.
  • Dundas Street and south Franklin Boulevard: mixed industrial and commercial properties in south Cambridge.

New buildings on the 401 corridor have high bays and big docks; an old mill building in Galt or Hespeler may need a machine split in pieces to clear a door or a column. We check both ends before we pick the method.

What We Move in Cambridge

Not a Fit

We take industrial jobs of 3,500 CAD and up, so we pass on household and office moves, vehicles, general freight, and forklift or crane rental on its own. A moving company or a rental firm is the better choice for those.

Automotive Retooling and Production-Line Changes

Cambridge is an automotive city. Toyota’s Cambridge complex, which builds the RAV4 and the Lexus RX, is due to start building the updated, hybrid-only Lexus NX in December 2026 (Bloomberg, via The Japan Times, October 2026). A model change like this can also mean retooling at supplier plants. Toyota is named here as context, not as a client.

Retooling work runs on hard dates. Old equipment comes out and new equipment goes in during planned shutdowns, often over a holiday or a long weekend, and deliveries arrive in a tight window. We plan the order of moves with your engineering team, stage the equipment, and set each machine on its marks so the integrators and electricians can start on time:

  • Removal: old line equipment rigged out and shipped, or held in storage until it is sold
  • Installation: new presses, robot cells, conveyors and fixtures set, levelled and anchored
  • Transfers: machines moved between buildings or to another plant
  • Timing: nights, weekends and shutdown windows

For levelling, anchoring and alignment, see millwright services and machinery installation; for larger auto-plant projects, see our auto plant equipment rigging page.

Machine-Tool Deliveries and Heavy Machining Centres

Cambridge has machine-tool dealers and technical centres, and the shops of Waterloo Region buy large machining centres, gantry mills and grinders. A big machine needs the same plan whether it is new or used:

  • The floor: foundation drawings and floor capacity at the new spot, checked before delivery
  • The path: door sizes, columns and turns from the dock to the foundation
  • The rigging: the maker’s lifting points and shipping brackets, and how the machine splits
  • The setting: set on its marks, levelled and anchored, then handed to the dealer’s technician to commission the control

New machines that arrive before the building is ready can go into storage first. For more on heavy machine tools in the region, see CNC and machine-tool movers in Kitchener-Waterloo.

One Plan From the Old Foundation to the New One

Each move in Cambridge follows the same sequence, and the same crew carries it through:

  • Rig-out: once your electricians and plumbers disconnect it, the machine comes off its anchors on jacks and moves on skates, a gantry or a forklift of the right capacity.
  • Lifts: a machine going onto a roof or mezzanine, into a pit or over a wall is lifted with our crane or a partner crane; see crane rigging and heavy lifting.
  • The haul: chained and blocked on a trailer matched to the machine’s weight and height; see machinery transport in Ontario.
  • Set-in-place: set on its marks, levelled and anchored at the new site.

Permits for Machinery Moves in Cambridge

In Cambridge, most of the main industrial roads belong to the Region, so most hauls need a Regional permit, plus the City’s for streets inside the business parks:

Region of Waterloo Roads

Hespeler Road, Franklin Boulevard, Fountain Street, Pinebush Road, Eagle Street North, Speedsville Road, Townline Road, Can-Amera Parkway, Maple Grove Road, Water Street, Dundas Street and King Street are Region of Waterloo roads. A load over the size or weight limits of the Highway Traffic Act needs a Regional oversize load permit, applied for through the Region’s Permit Central portal. Occupying a Regional road, shoulder or sidewalk, for example with a crane or a parked trailer, needs a Regional Work Permit as well.

City of Cambridge Streets

On City streets, an oversize or overweight load needs a permit from the City under its Traffic and Parking By-law. Any work in the City right-of-way, including a crane or a heavy vehicle parked on the street, needs a Highway Occupancy Permit: allow 10 business days for a full road closure, 5 for a lane closure and 3 when no lane is closed. The application costs $300 plus HST and needs an insurance certificate naming the City and an Ontario Traffic Manual (Book 7) traffic plan.

Highway 401 and Other Provincial Highways

On provincial highways, an oversize or overweight load needs an MTO oversize/overweight permit; apply for a single trip at least five business days ahead.

Reduced-Load Roads and Bridges

Both the Region and the City post reduced-load signs on some roads and bridges; while a sign is up, vehicles over the posted weight can’t use that road. We check the posted roads when we plan the route.

Machinery Moving Cost in Cambridge

There is no flat rate for a machine move; we quote each job once we know the machine and both sites. The main factors are:

  • Weight and size of each machine, how it splits, and how many move
  • Rigging method: skates, jacks, a gantry, a heavy forklift or a crane
  • Building access: docks, doors, columns, freight elevators and floor capacity
  • The haul: distance, trailer type, and Regional, City or MTO permits
  • Timing: shutdown windows, nights and weekends
  • Installation: levelling, anchoring and alignment at the new site

Jobs start at 3,500 CAD, and most rigged machine moves cost more. For a rough range, use the Heavy Lifting and Moving Calculator, or see how jobs are priced on our pricing page.

Machinery Movers in Cambridge: FAQ

How much does it cost to move a machine in Cambridge?

There is no flat rate: the machine’s weight and size, the rigging method, access at both ends, the haul and any permits set the price. Jobs start at 3,500 CAD, and most rigged machine moves cost more. For a rough range, use our Heavy Lifting and Moving Calculator.

Which permit do I need on Cambridge’s industrial roads?

Usually the Region’s, plus the City’s. Hespeler Road, Franklin Boulevard, Fountain Street, Pinebush Road, Eagle Street North and Speedsville Road are Region of Waterloo roads, so an oversize or overweight load on them needs a Regional oversize load permit, applied for through Permit Central. Streets inside the business parks are City streets with their own City permit, and working on a Regional road also needs a Regional Work Permit.

Does the City of Cambridge need a permit for a crane on the street?

Yes. A crane or other heavy vehicle in the City right-of-way needs a Highway Occupancy Permit: allow 10 business days for a full road closure, 5 for a lane closure and 3 when no lane is closed. The application costs $300 plus HST.

Can you work during a model changeover or plant shutdown?

Yes. We plan the order of moves with your engineering team, stage the equipment and work nights, weekends or holiday shutdowns, so the integrators and electricians can start on the new line on time.

Can you set a new machining centre in our shop?

Yes. We check the foundation drawings, the floor and the path from the dock, rig the machine with the maker’s lifting points, set it on its marks, level and anchor it, and hand it to the dealer’s technician to commission.

What if the machine arrives before our building is ready?

We can unload it, store it and deliver it again when the floor and power are ready, then set it in place on the install date. Tell us the delivery date and the planned install date when you ask for a quote.

Do you move machines between Cambridge, Kitchener, Guelph and Brantford?

Yes. Moves within Waterloo Region and to the neighbouring cities are planned the same way, with the permits each road needs. See machinery movers in Kitchener-Waterloo and Guelph.

Do you use cranes in Cambridge?

When a machine has to go onto a roof, into a pit or over an obstacle, yes: with our crane or a partner crane, planned by our riggers. We don’t rent out cranes on their own, and most moves inside a plant need no crane at all.

Can you remove machines bought at a Cambridge plant auction?

Yes. Tell us the lot numbers, the removal deadline and the sale’s terms, and we plan the rig-out around the auction’s removal window, with a certificate of insurance if the auction house asks for one. See auction machinery removal for how these removals run.

What do you need from me for an exact quote?

The machine’s make, model, weight and dimensions, photos of it and the path out, both addresses, the access at each end, the installation you need, your dates and your site rules. Send them with the quote request form, and we usually reply within 2–4 business hours.
