Rigging-Busters banner for our Guelph industrial moving and rigging services

Rigging-Busters Guelph is an industrial moving company in Guelph, Ontario, working for plants in the city and across Wellington County. We are a machinery moving and rigging company that provides professional riggers and lifters. Our machinery movers and riggers lift CNC machines, presses and entire production lines out of one building and set them down in the next, from a single machine in a machine shop to the contents of a plant. Rigging-Busters brings experienced rigging and machinery moving teams together under one standard of quality, and in Guelph that starts with a plan for the route, the lift and the landing spot before any machine is touched.

  • Industrial work only: machines, production lines and plant equipment. Homes and offices are not our work.
  • One crew from rigging to installation: the team that lifts and hauls your machine also sets it, levels it and handles the millwright installation.
  • Minimum job: 3,500 CAD. Most plant moves come in higher, and the written quote states the full price before any work starts.
  • Insured: liability and workers’ compensation insurance (WSIB in Ontario), with a certificate of insurance on request.
  • Quotes: usually within 2–4 working hours once we have all the details. Estimates are free.
  • Coverage: Guelph and its employment areas, Wellington County (Puslinch, Guelph/Eramosa, Centre Wellington, Erin), Cambridge, Kitchener-Waterloo, Milton and Hamilton.

Guelph Industries We Move Equipment For: Manufacturing, Metalworking and Life Sciences

Guelph’s economic development strategy names Advanced Manufacturing, Agri-Innovation and Life Sciences as the city’s industry clusters (City of Guelph). The City’s advanced manufacturing sector profile counts over 500 employers and entrepreneurs in the sector and calls it the largest employment sector for Guelph residents. The sub-sectors it lists include motor vehicle parts, machine shops and turned products, architectural and structural metals, metalworking machinery, and pharmaceutical and health care products (City of Guelph sector profile, whose sources date from 2017 and 2018).

That mix sets the equipment we expect to handle here: CNC machines, lathes and presses from machine shops and parts makers, fabricated and structural metal lines, and heavy lab, pharma and process equipment on the life sciences side. The service pages in the list above cover each of these. A plant that adds a line needs the new machine unloaded, rigged in and set on its pad, and a plant that consolidates needs the old line rigged out the other way.

The City acquired about 420 acres in 2001 for the purpose of developing the Hanlon Creek Business Park (City of Guelph). A move into or out of an employment area like it starts the same way as any other: the route, the dock or door at each end, and a lift plan agreed before the crew arrives.

Areas We Cover from Guelph

Our crews work throughout Guelph, including the Hanlon Creek Business Park and the city’s other employment areas, and in the neighbouring Wellington County municipalities of Puslinch, Guelph/Eramosa, Centre Wellington and Erin, with the rest of the county beyond them. Outside the county we take jobs in Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo, in Milton and Halton Hills, and in Hamilton. Hub pages for the neighbouring cities: Kitchener, Milton and Hamilton. For moves further afield, see our machinery movers across Ontario.

Oversize Loads on Guelph, Wellington County and Provincial Roads

A load that is over the Highway Traffic Act limits needs an Oversized Vehicle Permit from the City of Guelph’s Transportation Services Department, and the City asks for the application at least five business days before the move (City of Guelph permit form). The permit is valid in daylight hours only, not between 7 and 9 a.m. or 4 and 6 p.m., and not on Saturdays, Sundays or statutory holidays. A Guelph Police escort is required when a load is wider than 3.65 m on a two-lane road, wider than 4.80 m on a four-lane road or higher than 4.80 m, and the form says to book that escort at least seven days ahead.

On County roads, Wellington County asks for 10 business days’ notice, wants the route uploaded for a single-trip permit, and issues permits that are valid only on roads under the County’s jurisdiction (Wellington County). Provincial highways such as the 401 fall under the MTO oversize/overweight permit, which is valid for King’s highways only; Ontario asks carriers to apply at least 5 business days ahead for a single trip. We file the permits and book any escorts a load needs, so send us your dates early and the lead time is built into the plan.

Have These Ready for an Exact Guelph Quote

Complete details mean a firmer price sooner. Please send these with your quote request:

  1. What is moving: one machine, a few machines, a production line or a whole plant
  2. Make, model and weight, plus the footprint of each machine; a photo of the nameplate saves a round of questions
  3. Both addresses, with the dock or ground-level door, door width, ceiling height and floor at each end
  4. The date that matters: a shutdown window, a move-out deadline or the day the new building opens, and whether machines need crating or a short storage stay in between
  5. Who handles what: your electricians disconnect and reconnect, the OEM commissions, and someone releases the machine back to production
  6. Photos of the machines and of the way out of the building

Our quote comes back usually within 2–4 working hours once we have all the details. Want a ballpark figure first? The Heavy Lifting & Moving Calculator gives an instant price range.

Guelph Industrial Moving: FAQ

Which Guelph service fits my job?

Moving machines from one building to another is the job of our machinery movers in Guelph. Lifting, skating and setting a machine inside the same plant is covered on the rigging company in Guelph page. CNC machines, lab equipment and forklifts each have a page of their own in the list above.

Which permits does a machine move in and around Guelph need?

It depends on the roads the load uses. Inside Guelph, the City’s Oversized Vehicle Permit comes from Transportation Services with an application at least five business days ahead. Wellington County permits its own roads and asks for 10 business days’ notice, and the Ministry of Transportation covers King’s highways such as the 401, asking for at least 5 business days for a single trip. We plan the route and file the applications.

When does a load in Guelph need a police escort?

Under the City’s oversized vehicle permit, a Guelph Police escort is required when a load is wider than 3.65 m on a two-lane road, wider than 4.80 m on a four-lane road or higher than 4.80 m, and it has to be booked at least seven days ahead. Loads higher than 4.15 m also mean notifying Alectra Utilities (formerly Guelph Hydro), Bell and Rogers. We check your dimensions against these limits when we plan the route.

Which parts of Guelph and Wellington County do you cover?

All of Guelph, including the Hanlon Creek Business Park and the city’s other employment areas, plus the Wellington County municipalities of Puslinch, Guelph/Eramosa, Centre Wellington and Erin. Further out we work in Cambridge, Kitchener-Waterloo, Milton, Halton Hills and Hamilton, and a machine can leave Guelph for any site in southern Ontario or cross the US border by truck.

What is the smallest job you take?

Jobs start at 3,500 CAD. A lift plan, rigging gear and a full crew are needed even for a short move inside one building, so a typical plant job costs more than that. If you only have one light machine or some office equipment, a general mover will probably cost you less. You get the full price in writing before any work starts.

How quickly will I get a quote?

Usually within 2–4 working hours once we have all the details. Those are the make, model and weight, photos, both addresses and your dates. A full line or a plant move may first need a free site visit. Estimates are free, and the Heavy Lifting and Moving Calculator gives you a rough range right away.

Do you move household or office furniture, or rent cranes and forklifts?

No. Our work is industrial machinery and plant equipment, so moving a house, apartment or office in Guelph is a job for a residential or commercial mover. Cranes and forklifts are not for rent either. If a lift needs a crane, it is our crane or a partner crane with its own operator, and the cost sits inside your quote.
