Rigging-Busters plans and carries out factory and plant relocation for manufacturers in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA): a single production line moved across the building, a whole plant moved to a new address, or two sites merged into one. Our machinery movers, riggers and millwrights take equipment apart where needed, move it and set it back in place, levelled and ready for start-up.
An industrial plant relocation in Toronto has its own hurdles: older buildings with tight docks and low doors, permits for any oversize load on City streets, and sometimes a move out to Peel, York or Halton Region. From single machine relocations to complete plants, our equipment relocation services are planned around those limits and around your production schedule.
- Industrial plants only: production equipment, lines and plant utilities, not office, household or corporate relocation.
- One crew from teardown to start-up: rigging, transport, set-in-place, levelling and millwright installation.
- Quotes within 2–4 business hours from your equipment list, with a site survey for larger moves.
- Coverage: Toronto and the GTA, southern Ontario, and cross-border moves to and from the United States.
For a first budget figure, try our Heavy Lifting & Moving Calculator, then send the equipment list for a firm quote.

How We Plan a Factory & Plant Relocation in Toronto

Your Factory Relocation Project Plan
Every industrial plant relocation starts as a project plan, not a truck booking. We build it with your production, maintenance and facilities leads, so everyone knows what moves when:
- Equipment register: every machine, line and utility that moves, with weights, dimensions and photos, tagged with its place on the new layout.
- Survey of both buildings: doors, docks, floor loads, crane rails and the route between them, so nothing arrives too tall or too heavy for the new site.
- Sequence and schedule: which lines run until the last day, which move first, and how long each one is down.
- Permits and trucking: City of Toronto and MTO oversize permits, escorts, and a trailer booked for each load.
- Shutdown and teardown: your licensed electricians disconnect power, then we match-mark, dismantle, crate or skid each machine.
- Move and set: rig out, haul, rig in, and set each machine on its marked spot.
- Level, align and hand over: our millwrights level and align, your electricians reconnect, and your team or the OEM restarts production.

Customized Plant Relocation Services for Toronto Manufacturers

Whole-Plant, Partial and Consolidation Moves
Every move gets a bespoke plan, because a bakery line, a stamping shop and a plastics plant come apart in very different ways. A plant move usually takes one of four shapes:
- Whole-plant relocation: everything moves to a new building, for example from an older Toronto plant to a newer facility in Peel, York or Halton.
- Single-line or department moves: one production line moves while the rest of the plant keeps working.
- Consolidations: two plants, or a plant and a warehouse, merged into one, with equipment sorted into what moves, what goes to storage and what is sold. For the machines leaving for good, see plant closure and auction removal in Toronto.
- In-plant re-layouts: machines moved within the same building to make room for new equipment or a better flow.
Phased Moves That Keep Production Running
A large-scale factory move does not have to stop production. We manage it in phases: your team builds stock ahead, one line moves while the others run, and it restarts at the new site before the next line comes down. Lines that cannot stop during the week move over weekends or planned shutdowns. Your planners set the order, and we give a realistic downtime for each line before anything moves.

Value-for-Money Factory Relocation Services: What Drives the Cost

Factory Relocation Cost in Toronto: The Main Drivers
A plant relocation is quoted per project, from the equipment register and a walk-through of both buildings. These items move the number most:
- How much moves: the machine count, the weights and how many lines come apart
- Teardown and rebuild: dismantling, crating, match-marking and millwright alignment at the new site
- Access at both buildings: docks, door heights, floor capacity, and any crane rails or mezzanines
- Distance and permits: trailer types, oversize permits and escorts, or cross-border paperwork
- Schedule: phased moves, weekend shutdowns and storage between the two sites
- Lifting method: skates, gantries and jack-and-roll, or a partner crane lift (crane time is included in your quote)
To compare quotes fairly, ask each contractor to price the same scope: rigging, transport, set-in-place and levelling. Estimates are free, and quotes are in Canadian dollars (CAD).

Expert Industrial Relocation Services: Lines, Machines and Utilities

What We Relocate in Toronto Plants
- Production lines and conveyors for bakery, beverage, packaging and food processing
- CNC machining centres, lathes and grinders
- Stamping presses, press brakes and shears
- Injection moulding machines, extruders and their auxiliaries
- Printing presses and finishing lines
- Compressors, chillers, switchgear and transformers
- Heavy lab, pharmaceutical and medical equipment (see laboratory and medical equipment relocation in Toronto)
Production Line Relocation, Machine by Machine
Before a line comes apart we photograph it, tag every cable and hose, and record each machine’s position and height, so it goes back together in the same order. Your licensed electricians disconnect and reconnect power and controls; our millwrights set, level and align each machine to the line’s reference marks. Conveyors and transfer points are rebuilt last, once the machines they link are fixed in place.
Toronto Industries We Move
Food and beverage processing is a big part of Toronto manufacturing: the sector employs more than 64,000 people across the Toronto region, over half of them at businesses in the city, and bakeries account for about a third of its jobs (City of Toronto). We also relocate plastics, printing, metal fabrication, pharmaceutical and auto-parts plants across the GTA.

Factory Decommissioning & Dismantling Services at the Old Site

Leaving the Old Building Clear
Decommissioning is where plant moves most often lose time, so it is planned in as much detail as the move itself:
- Disconnects: your licensed electricians make the electrical disconnects, and your trades cap air, water and gas lines.
- Dismantling: machines too big to travel whole are split into sections, labelled and crated.
- Overhead and mezzanine equipment: overhead conveyors and platform-mounted machines come down before the floor equipment.
- Surplus equipment: machines you are selling or scrapping are removed separately, on their own schedule.
Building demolition and environmental work stay with specialist contractors, and your lease hand-back date is built into our schedule.

Factory Installation & Reassembly Services at Your New Plant

Set-in-Place, Levelling and Millwright Installation
At the new building each machine is rigged in through the planned door, set on its marked footprint, levelled and aligned by our millwrights, and anchored where your layout calls for it. Lines are rebuilt in sequence and checked against the match marks before your electricians reconnect power and controls. The OEM or your maintenance team then recommissions, and production restarts line by line.
If your new manufacturing facility is still under construction, machines can go to storage until the floor, power and occupancy permits are ready.

Reliable Factory Transport & Rigging Services in Toronto

Rigging Methods for Plant Moves
Inside both buildings we move machines on skates and toe jacks, lift them with hydraulic gantries where there is no overhead crane, and use jack-and-roll for the heaviest bases. Heavy-capacity lift trucks load the trailers, and a licensed crane partner handles any lift that needs a crane. As an industrial rigging company in Toronto, we also take rigging-only work for plants that have their own trucking.
Oversize Permits for a Toronto Plant Move
A plant leaving Toronto usually travels on the 401, 427, 400 or 404, so most moves need permits at two levels. On City of Toronto roads, a vehicle and load of 4.15 m high, 2.59 m wide, 21.33 m long or 50 tonnes or more needs a single-trip oversize load permit; the City quotes 7 to 10 business days, longer for exceptionally large loads, and the permitted route must be scouted 48 hours before the move.
The Don Valley Parkway, Black Creek Drive, the Allen Expressway, the elevated stretch of Lake Shore Boulevard West and the Gardiner east of the Humber River are closed to oversize loads. Provincial highways need an MTO permit, requested at least 5 business days ahead, and regional or city roads in Peel, York or Halton need a permit from the road owner. We route each load and apply for every permit it needs, including heavy machinery hauling across the border to the United States.

Emergency Factory Relocation on Short Notice

What Can Move Fast, and What Cannot
A fire, a flood, an early lease termination or a building sale can leave a plant with weeks instead of months to move. Emergency moving services for a plant are about planning fast, not cutting corners. We reply to quote requests within 2–4 business hours, but some steps have fixed lead times:
- Permits: City of Toronto oversize permits normally take 7 to 10 business days and MTO permits at least 5, so loads within normal size limits go first.
- Disconnects: book your licensed electricians early, because they set the pace of the teardown.
- A place to put it: if the new plant is not ready, storage bridges the gap between the two buildings.

Service Area: Toronto, the GTA and Beyond
About 90% of Toronto’s manufacturing and warehousing jobs are in the City’s Employment Areas, and that is also where new industrial space is being planned: proposed industrial floor space there rose 14% from 2024 to 2025, and the Tapscott area in north-east Scarborough alone had 27 proposed projects (City of Toronto, 2025). We relocate plants into and out of all of them, from Rexdale-Airport and South Etobicoke to Downsview and Tapscott.
We also move plants between Toronto and Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, Oakville, Milton, Burlington, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa, and across southern Ontario. Heading to Halton? See factory and plant relocation in Milton. For Peel, see plant relocation in Mississauga, and for Hamilton, factory relocation in Hamilton.

Why Toronto Manufacturers Choose Us for Plant Relocation
- Machinery people, not office movers: our industrial moving services cover production equipment and nothing else.
- The mechanical scope end to end: teardown, rigging, transport, set-in-place, levelling and millwright installation by one crew.
- Plans your planners can use: sequence, downtime per line and dates agreed before the first machine moves.
- Permits and routing handled across Toronto, Peel, York, Halton and the provincial highways.
- Quote replies within 2–4 business hours.
A good fit: whole-plant moves, single-line relocations, consolidations, in-plant re-layouts, and moves between Toronto and the rest of Ontario or the United States.
Not a fit: office, business or corporate relocation, office decommissioning, household moves, crane rental, and equipment repair.

Factory and Plant Relocation in Toronto: FAQ
We start with an equipment register and a survey of both buildings, then agree the order the lines move in and how long each is down. On move days your licensed electricians disconnect power, we dismantle and rig out, haul with the permits in place, and set each machine on its marked spot. Our millwrights level and align it, and your team or the OEM restarts production.
Factory relocation, also called plant relocation or a factory move, is moving a manufacturing operation’s machines, production lines and plant utilities from one building to another, or to a new layout in the same building. Done properly, it covers planning, teardown, rigging, transport, reinstallation and levelling, so the plant restarts with as little downtime as possible.
It is the physical side of moving a plant: the heavy equipment rather than the offices or the staff. An industrial plant relocation team plans the sequence, rigs machines out with skates, gantries or jack-and-roll, hauls them on suitable trailers with any oversize permits, then sets, levels and aligns them at the new site. Office furniture, IT and employee moves go to commercial and corporate movers.
Usually, yes: we manage the move in phases. Your team builds stock ahead, one line moves while the others keep running, and it restarts at the new site before the next line comes down. Lines that cannot stop during the week move over weekends or planned shutdowns. Your planners set the order, and we give a realistic downtime for each line before anything moves.
Each plant relocation is priced per project, because the cost depends on how much equipment moves, how much has to be dismantled and rebuilt, access at both buildings, distance and permits, the schedule and any storage. A clear equipment list and layout gets you a firm number fastest. Estimates are free, and our Heavy Lifting and Moving Calculator gives a rough range.
Only oversize loads need permits. On City of Toronto streets, a load of 4.15 m high, 2.59 m wide, 21.33 m long or 50 tonnes or more needs a single-trip permit, normally issued in 7 to 10 business days, and some expressways are closed to oversize loads. The 401, the 427 and other provincial highways need an MTO permit. We apply for every permit the route needs.
Start as soon as the move date is known. Smaller moves need less lead time, but a whole plant needs time for the equipment register, surveys of both buildings, a phased schedule and permits, and a City of Toronto oversize permit alone normally takes 7 to 10 business days. Lease end dates and planned shutdowns usually set the deadline, so share them first.
We are the crew that physically moves the plant: riggers, machinery movers and millwrights. We do not sell manufacturing relocation consulting such as site selection or incentives. If a relocation consultant or an engineering firm is planning your new layout, we work from their drawings; if not, we plan the move sequence with your own production and maintenance team.
All of Toronto, including Rexdale-Airport, South Etobicoke, Downsview and Tapscott, plus moves to or from Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, Oakville, Milton, Burlington, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa. Longer moves across southern Ontario, and cross-border moves to and from the United States, are planned the same way. Send both addresses with your quote request.
No. We relocate industrial plants: production machines, lines and plant utilities. Office and business relocation, office decommissioning, IT and furniture, and corporate or employee relocation services are handled by commercial movers and relocation firms. If your project includes a production floor, we move that part and coordinate dates with the office mover handling the rest.
