Large-format printer on skids, prepared for transport

Rigging-Busters works as printing press movers and riggers in Brampton for printers, packaging and label converters and print finishers in Peel Region. When a press changes buildings, our crew does the heavy part: we split the units where the OEM technician marks them, skid them out, load and truck them, and set each one down level so the press can be recommissioned. Folders, cutters and bindery lines move with the same crew.

  • Industrial only: production presses and finishing equipment. No print jobs, office copiers or home moves.
  • One crew from the old floor to the new one: rigging, transport, set-in-place and levelling, with millwright installation available.
  • Quick answers: quotes within 2–4 business hours.
  • Service area: Brampton, Peel Region, the GTA and southern Ontario.

Brampton has more than 124,000 businesses, and advanced manufacturing is one of the key sectors the City names in its September 2026 investment release. Commercial printing and packaging are part of that manufacturing base.

How We Move a Printing Press in Brampton

A press relocation has more trades on site than most machine moves. We run it in this order:

  1. Photos, specs and a walk-through: the press model and units, weights from the OEM documents, and both buildings, from the pressroom floor to the dock door.
  2. Split plan with the OEM technician: which joints open, which units travel as one, and what ships loose, such as dryers, guards and control cabinets.
  3. Route and permits: Region of Peel and MTO permits for any oversize unit, booked before the shutdown date.
  4. Your shutdown: your team removes paper, rolls, ink and solvents; your licensed electricians disconnect power and lock it out.
  5. Rigging out: our crew separates the units at the marked joints, then skids them on machinery skates or lifts them with a hydraulic gantry.
  6. Trucking: each unit is strapped and braced on a trailer matched to its height and weight.
  7. Setting in: units are placed in their original order and levelled for the OEM technician to rejoin and recommission.

Who Handles Each Part of a Press Move

The press maker’s technician owns the mechanical disconnect, the rejoining, the alignment and the recommissioning. Your licensed electricians handle power, as Ontario requires a Licensed Electrical Contractor (O. Reg. 570/05) for electrical work done for hire. Your contractor pours or prepares any foundation or pit. Your team clears ink, solvents and paper. Our crew does the splitting, skidding, hauling, setting and levelling.

Rigging Tools We Bring

  • Machinery skates for rolling units across a finished floor
  • Hydraulic gantries for lifts where the building has no crane
  • Jack-and-roll for the heaviest units, raised and moved in stages
  • Heavy-capacity forklifts at the dock
  • Matched trailers, with lowboys for tall frames
  • Crane lifts only if access requires one, with our crane or a partner crane

Press Transport and Permits in Brampton

In Brampton, the City notes that excess load permit applications are reviewed and issued by the Region of Peel. Peel asks for the application at least 10 business days before the move date, with the full route on Regional roads such as Queen Street, Airport Road, Bovaird Drive, Steeles Avenue and Highway 50, and the overall width, height, length and weight in metric units. A single permit covers a one-time load beyond the annual limits, under 120,000 kg in total, and costs $170.04.

Highways 410 and 427 are provincial, so an oversize unit on them also needs an MTO permit, requested at least 5 business days ahead.

Printing and Packaging Equipment We Move in Brampton

Typical loads on a Brampton press move:

  • Sheetfed offset presses and their coaters, dryers and delivery extensions
  • Web offset units, reel stands and folders
  • Flexo, label and digital presses, including inkjet and toner engines
  • Wide-format printers, flatbeds and cutting tables on skids
  • Guillotine cutters, folders, saddle stitchers, perfect binders and die-cutters
  • Laminators, slitters and the compressors and chillers behind the press

Printers, Converters and Plants We Work For

Commercial printers, packaging and label converters, in-plant print departments in manufacturing plants, sign and display shops, and dealers who deliver, install or remove used presses in Brampton and the rest of Peel.

Unloading New Presses and Container Deliveries

A new or used press often arrives crated, on a flatbed or in a sea container. If it comes by rail, it may pass through CN’s Brampton Intermodal Terminal at 76 Intermodal Drive, which CN lists as open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We unload the crates at your dock, move them in on skates or a forklift and set the units on the marked footprint for the installer. See also heavy equipment loading and unloading in Brampton.

Moving a Label, Flexo or Digital Press

Narrow-web label presses and stack flexo presses come apart station by station where the maker allows; a CI press travels around its drum and must stay level and free of shocks. Digital engines stay upright and covered. Your OEM technician prepares each press, and we keep every section braced so nothing shifts on the way.

Press moves are specialty rigging and machinery moving work. For other machines in the city, see machinery moving in Brampton; for lifts and skidding without transport, see industrial rigging services in Brampton.

Printing Press Moving Cost in Brampton: What Affects the Price

Press moves are priced job by job, once we have seen the press and both sites. What changes the price most:

  • Size of the press: units, format and weight, and any coater, dryer or delivery extension
  • The split: how many joints are opened and how the OEM’s schedule fits ours
  • Access: dock height, door and ceiling clearance, floor strength and the path to the door
  • Distance and permits: Region of Peel and MTO permits, escorts for oversize units
  • Extras: unloading new crates, storage between sites, finishing equipment, millwright installation
  • Timing: nights or weekends to keep the presses running

The OEM’s own technician time is billed by the press maker or dealer, separately from our quote. We quote in Canadian dollars (CAD), and estimates are free.

Why Brampton Printers Call Us

  • We only move industrial equipment: presses, converting and finishing lines.
  • One crew does the whole move: rigging out, trucking, setting in and levelling.
  • We follow the OEM’s plan for split points and sequence.
  • Peel and MTO permits are part of our job.
  • Moves fit your schedule: nights and weekends when the presses must keep running.
  • Quick quotes: within 2–4 business hours.

A good fit: single presses, pressrooms and bindery lines, new-press deliveries from a container or flatbed, used presses bought at auction, and moves between Brampton and the rest of the GTA.

Not a fit: print jobs or printing services (we don’t print), office printers, copiers and plotters, press repair or spare parts, the history of the printing press, and household or office moves.

Printing Press Movers in Brampton: FAQ

How much does it cost to move a printing press in Brampton?

There is no set price; each move is quoted after we see the press and both sites. Cost follows the number and weight of the units, how far the press is split, dock and door access, the route, and whether nights or weekends are needed. If a unit needs a Region of Peel single permit, that alone is $170.04. Try our Heavy Lifting and Moving Calculator for a rough range.

What is the best way to move a printing press?

Let the press maker’s technician set the split points and the order, then have one rigging crew handle every lift and haul. Power is disconnected by licensed electricians, the press is emptied of ink and paper, and each unit rolls out on skates, a gantry or jack-and-roll. At the new site the units go down level and in order for recommissioning.

What are the risks of moving a printing press?

A unit can be damaged if it is lifted at the wrong points, dropped or racked, and a press that is not set back level may not hold register when it restarts. Leftover ink and solvents, a floor that cannot take the load and a permit booked too late cause the other problems. A written move plan agreed with the OEM technician deals with each of them.

Who issues oversize load permits in Brampton?

The Region of Peel. The City of Brampton states that excess load permit applications are reviewed and issued by the Region of Peel, which covers its Regional roads such as Queen Street, Airport Road, Bovaird Drive and Steeles Avenue. Peel asks for the application at least 10 business days before the move. Highways 410 and 427 also need an MTO permit.

What does the Region of Peel need for an excess load permit?

The full route on Regional roads and the overall width, height, length and weight of the load in metric units, sent at least 10 business days before the move date. A single permit covers a one-time load beyond the annual limits, with a total weight under 120,000 kg, and costs $170.04. We prepare and submit it as part of the move.

Can you unload a new press that arrives in a container or on a flatbed?

Yes. We unload the crates at your dock or yard, move them inside on skates or a forklift and set the units on the marked footprint for the OEM installer. If the container came through CN’s Brampton Intermodal Terminal, we plan around its pickup time. See heavy equipment loading and unloading in Brampton for single machines.

Do you move presses in Bramalea, Bram West or along Highway 410?

Yes. We work across Brampton’s employment districts, including Bramalea, Airport Intermodal, Highway 410 and Steeles, the Goreway Drive Corridor, Bram West and the Highway 427 Industrial area, and we move presses from Brampton to Mississauga, Caledon, Vaughan and Toronto. Send both addresses with your quote request and we will confirm the route and permits.

What should be ready at the new plant before the press arrives?

The floor or foundation your contractor prepared, with any pit cured and the footprint marked; power and air run to the press location by your licensed electricians; a clear path from the dock to the footprint; and the OEM technician booked for the days after set-in. We check these on the site visit so the units can go straight into place.

Can you move a used press bought at an auction?

Yes. We plan the rig-out around the removal window the auction sets, truck the press to your Brampton building or to storage, and set it in place when your floor and power are ready. Ask the seller early for the OEM manual and any split points, because they shape the plan and the price.

Can you print for us or move our office copiers?

No. Rigging-Busters is not a printing company, so print jobs belong with a print shop, and office copiers, printers and plotters are best left to an office mover or the dealer. Our work is production equipment for Brampton printers and converters: offset, flexo, label and digital presses, wide-format printers, cutters, folders, binders and complete finishing lines.
