Industries Around Oshawa and the Equipment We Move
GM’s Oshawa Assembly is getting the next-generation Heavy-Duty GMC Sierra: Unifor’s August 2026 agreement with GM lists C$144 million for that product, on top of an earlier C$63 million for stamping and other upgrades in Oshawa. When a model changes, supplier plants often re-lay presses, dies, welding cells and conveyors as well, and we move that equipment, mostly inside shutdown windows.

Lactalis Canada chose Oshawa for its largest global distribution facility, and Martin Brower’s newest distribution facility is in Northwood Business Park, a new 500-acre employment area. The Port of Oshawa, run by HOPA Ports, has handled more than 3 million tonnes of cargo over the past decade, from salt and steel products to sugar, asphalt and grain. Durham Region’s profile of Oshawa lists advanced manufacturing, nuclear energy generation, health and biosciences and multimodal transportation among its priority clusters, so we also take jobs for energy-sector suppliers, food and beverage plants, metal fabricators, machine shops, and college and hospital labs.

Areas We Cover from Oshawa
From Oshawa we take jobs across Durham Region: Whitby, Ajax and Pickering to the west, Clarington (Courtice, Bowmanville and Newcastle) to the east, and Scugog (Port Perry) and Uxbridge to the north, plus Port Hope along Highway 401. For the rest of the GTA, see our rigging company in Toronto; further east on Highway 401, our industrial moving services in Kingston take over, and for longer hauls there are our machinery movers across Ontario.
Oversize Load Permits in Oshawa and Durham Region
Most machines travel within normal Highway Traffic Act limits and need no permit. For an oversize load, we apply for each permit the route needs and schedule around its conditions:
- City of Oshawa streets: a City of Oshawa moving permit is needed once a load is wider than 2.60 m, higher than 4.15 m, longer than 23 m or over the Highway Traffic Act weights. Apply 10 to 15 business days before the move. A route map and traffic control plan may be required, the route is cleared with the railways, Fire, Police, EMS, Durham Region Transit and overhead utilities. Two police escorts are needed from 5.00 m wide or 45.75 m long, and above 65,000 kg gross the City asks for an axle-load drawing and may require a bridge evaluation by an engineer.
- Durham Region roads: if any part of the route uses a Regional road, the Durham Region oversize/overweight permit comes first; it is applied for online, and the Region asks for ten business days to process it.
- Highway 401: a provincial highway, so an MTO oversize/overweight permit is requested at least 5 business days ahead.
- Half-load season: from early March to about April 30, signed City of Oshawa roads are limited to 5 tonnes per axle; the exact dates are set each year.
What We Need for an Oshawa Quote
Send these six things with your quote request and the price comes back faster and firmer; for a first rough number, the Heavy Lifting and Moving Calculator gives a range:
- Scope: a single machine, a press line or cell, a whole department, or a removal after a closure or auction sale
- Each machine: make, model, weight and dimensions (the nameplate or the OEM spec sheet is enough)
- Pick-up and drop-off: addresses, dock or grade doors, ceiling height, floor loading and any tight turns
- Timing: shutdown or changeover dates, and whether the route uses Regional roads or falls in the spring half-load season
- Roles: disconnects and reconnects by your licensed electricians, OEM start-up, and whether you want crating, storage or millwright installation from us
- Photos: the machine, its anchor bolts and the path to the truck

Oshawa Machine Moving and Rigging: FAQ
It depends on what happens to the equipment. A machine going to another building is a job for our machinery movers in Oshawa. Lifting, skidding or re-laying it inside the same plant is industrial rigging services in Oshawa. Clearing equipment after a closure, consolidation or auction sale is heavy equipment removal in the GTA. One quote request reaches all three.
Yes. Before a CNC machine moves, we lock the axes and secure the spindle, while your team or the OEM backs up the parameters and drains the coolant. The machine is then skidded or lifted out, trucked and set level on its new footprint for the OEM to recommission. Details are on our machinery movers in Oshawa page.
The City of Oshawa wants its moving permit application 10 to 15 business days before the move, and if the route uses a Regional road, the Durham Region permit comes first, with ten business days to process. Add the MTO permit for Highway 401 and the spring half-load season on signed City roads, and three weeks is a sensible lead time.
Yes. Northwood Business Park is a new 500-acre employment area in Oshawa, and new buildings there and elsewhere in Durham need conveyors, packaging machines, compressors and production equipment unloaded, rigged in and set in place. We plan the deliveries around the builder’s schedule, level and anchor each machine, and leave power connections to your licensed electricians.
Yes. Nuclear energy generation is one of Oshawa’s priority clusters, and the shops that supply the sector run machine tools, fabrication equipment, test stands, transformers and switchgear. We rig, move and set that equipment at supplier plants and leave connections to your licensed electricians. For transformer jobs, see electrical transformer moving services in Toronto, which also cover Oshawa.
Yes. Most moves need no crane, because skates, gantries and jack-and-roll do the work. When a machine has to go onto a mezzanine or roof or over an obstacle, our small crane or a licensed partner crane is booked into the job and its time is included in your quote. We do not rent out cranes on their own; see crane rigging and heavy lifting for machinery.
Yes. After a move, or when a new machine arrives from the dealer, our millwrights set it on its footprint, level and align it to the precision the OEM specifies, and anchor it, ready for hook-up. Our millwright services and machinery installation page explains how installs are run in Toronto and the GTA, and Durham Region jobs follow the same steps.
No. We move industrial machinery and plant equipment only, so house, apartment and office moves are better handled by a residential or commercial mover. We do not run forklift training, rent out forklifts or cranes, or repair equipment. Forklifts, skates and gantries are used only inside our own moving and rigging jobs.
