Large machining centre on machinery skates, ready to be moved

Rigging-Busters are CNC machine movers for machine shops and manufacturers in Milton, ON and the surrounding area of Halton Region. Our machinery movers and riggers prepare, skid, load, haul, set in place and level CNC machining centres, lathes, mills and grinders, so CNC machine moving becomes one planned job with one crew.

Running a machine shop in Milton and outgrowing your unit, adding machines or swapping an old lathe for a new turning centre? This page sets out how we move CNC equipment, what your team and the machine’s OEM take care of, which permits apply on Milton and Halton roads, and what drives the price.

  • Machines only: CNC machines, machine tools and plant equipment. We are not household, office or commercial movers.
  • One crew from rigging to levelling: skidding, transport, set-in-place and millwright installation.
  • Quote replies usually within 2–4 working hours once we have all the details, and estimates are free.
  • Minimum job: 3,500 CAD before tax. Most industrial jobs cost more, and your written quote shows the full price.
  • Where we work: Milton, Oakville, Burlington, Halton Hills and the western GTA, with machine transport across Ontario and to the United States.

Comprehensive CNC Machine Moving Services in Milton

Rigging-Busters covers every stage of your CNC machine moving requirements, so you deal with one crew instead of a rigger, a hauler and a millwright booked separately.

CNC Machine Relocation

Our CNC machine relocation service covers moves inside your building, from one Milton unit to another, and out to a new plant elsewhere in Ontario. Before moving day we confirm the machine’s weight, footprint and jacking points and walk the route out, so the method suits your floor and doors instead of being improvised on the day.

CNC Machine Transport

As a CNC machine transportation company, we load each machine onto a trailer suited to its weight and height, then block and chain it so nothing shifts on Highway 401 or the regional roads. Bar feeders, chip conveyors and coolant tanks ride as separate pieces, and a large machine can travel in sections.

CNC Machine Installation

Beyond moving and transport, we handle CNC machine installation: our millwrights set the machine on its new footprint, level it to the maker’s specification and leave it ready for your electricians and the OEM technician.

When the layout changes, we place each machine to your floor plan, so chip conveyors, coolant tanks and operator access all fit before the power is connected.

Customized Moving Solutions

No two Milton shops move the same way, so we offer customized moving solutions built around your production.

That can mean one machine moved on a Saturday, a whole cell moved over a long weekend, or a staged move in which half the shop keeps running in the old unit while the other half starts up in the new one.

How to Move a CNC Machine in Milton: Our Process and Your Part

A CNC move goes smoothly when everyone knows their part before the riggers arrive. This is the order we follow when a machining centre, lathe or mill leaves a Milton shop:

  1. You send the details: make, model and serial plate, weight, options such as a bar feeder, chip conveyor or fourth axis, both addresses and the days production can stop.
  2. We check the route: door height and width, slab condition, dock or grade-level access and the path from the machine to the truck, at the old unit and the new one.
  3. Your team or the OEM backs up and drains: programs, parameters and tool offsets are saved, the coolant tank is drained and the chip trays are emptied.
  4. Your licensed electricians disconnect the power, and the air supply is shut off and capped.
  5. Our crew locks the axes and secures the spindle, straps the doors and tool changer, then jacks the machine at its lifting points and skids it.
  6. Loading and transport on a trailer suited to the machine’s weight and height, with permits when the load is oversize.
  7. Set-in-place and re-levelling at the new spot; your electricians reconnect and the OEM technician recommissions the control.

Preparing the Machine: Who Does What

Most of the risk in a CNC move sits in the preparation, not in the drive. A machine that travels with coolant in its tank, or without a parameter back-up, can cost more downtime than the trip itself, so the tasks are split clearly:

  • Your team or the OEM backs up the control’s parameters and programs, drains the coolant and takes loose tooling out of the carousel or turret.
  • Your licensed electricians disconnect and later reconnect the power. In Ontario, electrical work done for hire needs a Licensed Electrical Contractor (O. Reg. 570/05).
  • Our riggers lock the axes, using the maker’s shipping brackets where the machine has them, secure the spindle head so it cannot drop or turn, and skid the machine on its jacking points.
  • The OEM technician recommissions the control after the move and checks the machine’s accuracy.

Rigging Equipment for Machine Tools

Many shop units have no overhead crane, so a CNC move is usually planned from the floor up:

  • Toe jacks and machinery skates to raise a machine at its jacking points and roll it across the shop
  • Hydraulic gantries where a machine has to be lifted and the unit has no crane
  • Heavy-capacity forklifts to carry machines out through a grade-level door and load them at a dock
  • Jack-and-roll with steel cribbing for the heaviest machining centres and boring mills
  • A crane lift, with our crane or a partner crane, only when a machine has to go over an obstacle; the crane time is included in your quote

CNC Machine Transport and Permits in Milton and Halton Region

Most CNC machines leave Milton on a standard trailer without an oversize permit. When a machine and its trailer go past the Highway Traffic Act limits, for example wider than 2.6 m or taller than 4.15 m, up to three road authorities are involved:

  • Town of Milton roads: the Town’s oversize/overweight load permit, one-time or annual, applied for at least five business days before it is needed.
  • Halton Region roads, such as Steeles Avenue (Regional Road 8) and Tremaine Road (Regional Road 22): a Halton Region oversize permit. A load wider than 3.99 m, taller than 4.25 m, longer than 36.70 m or heavier than 63,500 kg needs a single-trip permit, which Halton processes within 5 business days.
  • Highway 401 and other provincial highways: an MTO oversize permit, applied for at least 5 business days before the trip.

Halton’s single-trip moves run in daylight on weekdays that are not statutory holidays, outside 6:30–9 a.m. and 3:30–6 p.m., and never from December 24 to January 3. The load may not stop over on a Regional road. A private escort is needed from 4.0 m wide, over 4.85 m high or from 36.75 m long, and two police escorts from 5.0 m wide or 45.74 m long, so we set the move date around these rules.

Re-Levelling and OEM Start-Up at the New Unit

At the new spot we set the machine on its levelling pads, re-level it and take off the axis locks. Your electricians reconnect power and air, and the OEM technician restores the parameters, recommissions the control and checks accuracy. Book that OEM visit as soon as the move date is fixed: the technician’s calendar, not the move itself, usually sets the restart date.

CNC Machines and Other Machine Tools We Move

Our Milton CNC movers handle machine tools such as:

  • Vertical and horizontal machining centres, including pallet-changer models
  • CNC lathes, turning centres and Swiss-type lathes with their bar feeders
  • Bed mills, knee mills, and bridge or gantry mills moved in sections
  • Surface and cylindrical grinders, and wire or sinker EDM machines
  • Press brakes, shears, and laser or plasma cutting tables
  • Manual engine lathes and older machines leaving the shop for resale

Milton Industries and Business Parks We Serve

Advanced manufacturing supports more than 6,500 jobs in Milton. The Town of Milton reports more than 100 new businesses in 2025, a mix of start-ups, relocations and expansions, and new firms started operating in the 401 Business Park and the Derry Green Corporate Business Park. Industrial leasing more than doubled that year and employment land vacancy fell from 19 to 12 per cent by early 2026, so a shop that moves usually has a fixed lease date to hit.

The town’s manufacturers include aerospace parts makers: federal funding announced in 2023 helped Cyclone Manufacturing add a heat-treatment oven at its Milton facility. We move machines for job shops, aerospace and automotive parts makers, metal fabricators and machine tool dealers along the Highway 401 corridor.

Moving a Machine Shop Into a New Milton Unit

A move into a new unit is easier when the building is ready before the first machine arrives. Check these with your landlord or builder:

  • The bay door is tall and wide enough for your largest machine on skates, not only on paper
  • The slab can carry your heaviest machine, and any floor coating has fully cured
  • Power drops and air lines are roughed in at each machine location
  • The layout is marked on the floor, so each machine is set only once
  • Dock times and the building’s rules for rigging equipment are agreed

With that done, we move the machines in the order your production needs them, often the bottleneck machine first.

CNC Machine Moving Cost in Milton: What You Pay For

Every CNC move is quoted per job, once we have the machine details or have seen the shop. The price depends on:

  • The machine: weight, size, and whether the enclosure clears your doors without taking panels off
  • What travels with it: bar feeders, chip conveyors, coolant tanks, pallet changers and tooling
  • Distance: across the shop, across Milton, to another Ontario city or across the border to the United States
  • Access at both ends: dock or grade-level door, ramps, floor condition and tight aisles
  • Permits and escorts, needed only for oversize loads; most CNC machines need neither
  • Timing: evening or weekend work around your shifts
  • Extras: crating, storage, millwright installation and, when a lift needs one, crane time, which is included in your quote

Estimates are free and quoted in Canadian dollars (CAD). For a quick range, try the Heavy Lifting & Moving Calculator; for an exact price, send us the details listed further down.

Why Milton Machine Shops Hire Us for CNC Machine Moving

What you can expect when Rigging-Busters is your CNC moving company in Milton:

  • CNC movers who only do industrial work: machine tools and plant equipment, never furniture.
  • A clear split of tasks before moving day: who backs up, who drains, who disconnects and who restarts the machine.
  • One crew for rigging, skidding, transport, set-in-place and levelling, so nothing falls between trades.
  • Methods matched to your unit: skates, gantries and heavy forklifts, with a crane only when the job calls for one.
  • Move dates planned around Halton’s permit windows and your shutdown, not the other way round.
  • Quote replies usually within 2–4 working hours once we have all the details.
  • Insured: $5 million in liability insurance that includes cargo coverage, plus workers’ compensation coverage (WSIB in Ontario). Certificate of insurance and WSIB clearance certificate on request.

A good fit: one machine or a whole shop, machine swaps, moves into a new Milton unit, and dealers who need a new machine delivered, placed and levelled.

Not a fit: CNC machining or custom machine shop work (we move machines; we don’t cut parts), household, office or commercial moves, crane rental, and machine repair or calibration.

How to Choose a CNC Machine Mover in Milton

Compare quotes on scope, not only on price. Ask each mover:

  • Is set-in-place and levelling included, or only loading and delivery?
  • Who locks the axes and secures the spindle, and who handles back-ups and draining?
  • Which lifting method and which trailer will be used, and why?
  • Who applies for any Town, Halton Region or MTO permits?
  • How is the machine insured while it is rigged and in transit?

CNC Machine Moving FAQ for Milton Shops

How much does it cost to move a CNC machine?

It depends on the machine and the route, so each CNC move is quoted per job. Weight, enclosure height against your doors, attachments such as bar feeders and chip conveyors, distance, access at both ends and evening or weekend work set the price. Moving a machine within one Milton unit costs far less than hauling it to another city. For a rough range, use our Heavy Lifting and Moving Calculator.

What are the risks involved in moving a CNC machine?

The usual risks are an axis or spindle head that shifts in transit, a casting cracked by lifting at the wrong point, coolant spills, lost parameters and a machine that will not hold tolerance afterwards. Each has a step in the plan: back-ups and draining by your team or the OEM, axis locks and proper jacking points from our riggers, and re-levelling before the OEM restarts the machine.

What are the benefits of hiring a professional CNC machine mover?

A professional CNC machine mover brings the toe jacks, skates, gantries and trailers a machine tool needs, plans the lift around its centre of gravity and lifting points, and takes the job off your production staff. You also get one contact for rigging, transport, permits, set-in-place and levelling, and the machine arrives ready for your electricians and the OEM technician.

How do you move a CNC machine?

Your team or the OEM backs up the parameters and drains the coolant, and your licensed electricians disconnect the power. Our crew then locks the axes, secures the spindle and skids the machine on its jacking points. We move it on skates, a gantry or a heavy forklift, load it onto a suitable trailer, and set it in place and re-level it at the new address, in Milton or beyond.

Do I need a permit to move a CNC machine in Milton?

Usually not, because most CNC machines travel on a standard trailer within the legal size limits. A larger load needs the Town of Milton permit for Town roads, applied for at least five business days ahead, a Halton Region permit for Regional roads such as Steeles Avenue, and an MTO permit for Highway 401. We check the dimensions and apply for whichever permits your move needs.

Can we move a CNC machine during the Christmas shutdown in Milton?

In most cases, yes. Halton Region allows no single-trip oversize moves from December 24 to January 3, but a CNC machine within the legal size limits is not affected and can move that week. If your machine needs a single-trip permit, plan the move for after January 3; Halton still processes applications for those dates before December 24. Book early so the crew and the OEM technician are both free.

What should be ready at our new Milton unit before the CNC machines arrive?

A door and path large enough for your biggest machine on skates, a slab that can carry its weight with any floor coating fully cured, power drops and air lines roughed in at each machine location, and the layout marked on the floor. If you are moving into a new building in the 401 Business Park or Derry Green, also agree dock times and rigging rules with the landlord.

Who backs up the parameters and recommissions the CNC machine after the move?

Your maintenance team or the machine’s OEM backs up the parameters and programs before the move and recommissions the control afterwards. We lock the axes, secure the spindle, move the machine and re-level it. Your licensed electricians disconnect and reconnect the power, as Ontario requires for electrical work done for hire. Book the OEM visit early, since it usually sets the restart date.

Which areas around Milton do you cover?

All of Milton, including the 401 Business Park and Derry Green, and the rest of Halton Region: Oakville, Burlington and Halton Hills, with Georgetown and Acton. We also move CNC machines to and from Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Guelph and Cambridge, and across Ontario. For a move that starts in Peel Region, see our CNC machine movers in Brampton.

Do you offer CNC machining, or household and commercial moves?

No to both. We do not offer CNC machining or custom machine shop work: we move the machines that do it. We are industrial movers, not household or commercial movers, so we do not move homes, offices or furniture. If you are looking for movers in Milton for a CNC machine, a machine tool or a whole shop, that is the work we take on.
