Rigging Service Professionals: Rigging Contractors in London

What separates rigging contractors is the planning and the people. Our rigging service professionals are riggers and millwrights who work only on industrial jobs: they confirm the weight and centre of gravity, pick the lifting points, choose the gear and plan the floor and the route before anything moves. That is professional rigging for plants and machine shops, not general moving.

They handle valuable machinery and rigging equipment with the same routine on every job, from a toolroom lathe in a small London shop to a stamping press in an east-end plant, and they stay until the machine is set and level.

Specialized Machinery Moving & Rigging Services

Looking for machinery installation or relocation in London, ON? Our machine moving and rigging services cover the whole job, or just the rigging.

Our specialty rigging services follow the machines London makes and uses. Fabricated metal products account for about 14.3 per cent of the city’s roughly 434 manufacturing establishments and machinery manufacturing for about 9.4 per cent. Presses, press brakes, shears, CNC machines and coil lines are common loads here: top-heavy, high-value equipment that needs a low, slow move on jacks, skates or a gantry.

Industrial Moving Services Across London

Whether it is equipment transfers between two buildings or complete plant relocations, our industrial moving services in London are planned around your production schedule: machines come out in the order the new floor needs them, travel with the right permits and go back in on their marks.

The aim is minimum downtime: lines are split at the last possible moment, and the first machines to arrive are the ones you need running first.

Prioritizing Safety in Every Rigging Job

Safety on a rigging job comes from following the same rules every time. On every London job:

  • Rigging gear is rated well above the load: Ontario’s construction regulation requires slings and rigging hardware that can hold at least five times the maximum load (O. Reg. 213/91, s. 172).
  • Power lines stay clear: loads and equipment keep at least 3 m (10 ft) from energized lines of 750 V to 150 kV (s. 188), the rule many riggers call the 10-foot rule.
  • Tag lines control any load that could swing or rotate.
  • Power is locked out first: your maintenance team or your licensed electricians disconnect and lock out the machine before it is rigged.
  • Floors and routes are checked: slab capacity, trenches, pits and overhead obstructions are confirmed before the load moves.

Expert Rigging Project Planning

Got an upcoming rigging project in London, Ontario? Our rigging experts plan it with you before the quote is final: the weight and centre of gravity of each machine, the pick points, the floors and doors at both ends, the route, the permits, and the order in which machines need to leave and arrive. The method and the crew size are settled before moving day, not on it.

Industrial Rigging Professionals, Start to Finish

The same industrial rigging professionals who plan the lift carry it out: riggers to rig and move the machine, drivers to haul it, and millwrights to set, level and install it. One crew answers for the job, which matters when a machine has to come out on a Friday and run again on Monday.

How We Rig and Lift Machinery in London

A typical job, from the first call to a machine running in its new spot:

  1. Details and photos: nameplate weight and size, both addresses, the access at each end and the dates you have.
  2. Walk-through if needed: doors, overhead clearance, floor capacity, pits and the path out to the truck.
  3. Method and plan: skates, a hydraulic gantry, jack-and-roll, a heavy-capacity forklift, or a crane lift with our crane or a partner crane, chosen from the weight, the centre of gravity and the room to work.
  4. Permits: City of London, Middlesex or Elgin County and MTO permits for oversize loads, with any railway, fire and police notice the City requires.
  5. Disconnects: your maintenance staff or your licensed electricians isolate and lock out power, air and fluids.
  6. Rig, move and haul: the machine is rigged on rated gear, skidded out, loaded and secured, then hauled on a trailer that suits the load.
  7. Set and level: the machine is placed on its marks, levelled and aligned, and handed back for reconnection; millwright installation is available.

Heavy Industrial Rigging Equipment Our Crew Uses

  • Machinery skates and roller dollies for rolling loads over finished floors
  • Hydraulic gantries for lifts where there is no overhead crane
  • Jacks and steel cribbing for jack-and-roll and for raising machines in stages
  • Rated slings and shackles chosen for each pick
  • Heavy-capacity forklifts for loading and short carries
  • Trailers matched to each load for heavy equipment hauling
  • Crane lifts with our crane or a licensed partner crane

When it comes to heavy industrial rigging in London, the right gear is the gear that suits your floor and your machine, so we choose it from the plan, not the other way round.

Rigging Only or a Full Move

Need a press moved two bays over, or a CNC machine turned to fit a new cell? That is equipment rigging on its own: our riggers rig, move and set the machine inside your building, booked as an industrial rigging service with no truck involved. If the machine is leaving the site, the same crew loads it, hauls it and sets it at the other end. For bigger relocations, including whole plants, see heavy machinery movers in London.

Heavy Equipment Hauling and Permits in London

Heavy equipment hauling in London starts with the City’s Heavy Loads on Roads By-law S-2: any load over Highway Traffic Act limits on City roads needs a permit from the City Engineer, and the permit sets the roads and times you may use. When a load is over 3.66 m (144 in) wide, 13 ft 6 in high or 25 m long, the railway companies, the Fire Department and the Police must be told at least 72 hours before every move, and a police escort is arranged if required. The City’s move permit fees start at a loaded width of 2.59 m (102 in).

County roads have their own rules. Middlesex County issues a single-trip permit for loads up to 3.75 m wide or 70,000 kg and a moving permit above that. Moving-permit loads travel Monday to Thursday only, starting after 9 a.m. and finishing by 4 p.m., need a private escort from 3.76 m wide and a certified superload escort at 5.0 m, and need utility approval above 4.15 m high. The County issues no overweight permits in March and April. Toward St. Thomas, Elgin County issues its own oversize permits through its online permit portal, and Highways 401 and 402 need an MTO permit, applied for at least five business days ahead.

Set-in-Place, Levelling and Heavy Equipment Installation

Millwrighting and rigging belong together: a move is only finished when the machine is level, aligned and ready to run. At the new location our millwrights set the machine on its marks or anchors, level and align it, and reassemble anything that travelled in sections, ready for your electricians to reconnect. That covers heavy equipment installation for new machines too, straight off a dealer’s truck.

Crane Lifts: Our Crane or a Partner Crane

Most rigging inside London plants needs no crane. A crane is the right tool for a machine coming off a flatbed with no dock, a unit going onto a roof or a mezzanine, or a pick through a roof opening. We then lift it with our crane or a licensed partner crane and our riggers handle the rigging and the set. If you only need a crane service in London, Ontario, with an operator by the hour, a crane rental company is the better fit.

Rigging Services Cost in London: What Affects the Price

Every rigging job in London is quoted on its own details. The main cost drivers:

  • The machine: weight, size and centre of gravity
  • Access: doors, ceiling height, floor capacity, stairs or docks at both ends
  • Method: skates, gantry, jack-and-roll or a crane; when a lift needs a crane, the crane time is included in your quote
  • Permits and timing: City of London, Middlesex or Elgin County and MTO permits, 72-hour notice for the largest loads, and the Monday-to-Thursday daytime windows for oversize moves on Middlesex roads
  • Crew and hours: shutdown, night or weekend work inside the plant
  • Extras: crating, storage, anchoring, levelling and millwright installation

Small jobs are welcome: one machine shifted inside your plant is priced as its own job. Whatever the size, ask for rigging, hauling and set-in-place in one price. The Heavy Lifting and Moving Calculator gives a first range.

Why London Plants Choose Our Riggers

  • Industrial work only: plant machinery and equipment, never residential or office moves.
  • One crew for rigging and millwrighting: the same people lift, haul, set and level your machine.
  • Methods that fit the job: skates, gantries and jack-and-roll inside; our crane or a partner crane when a lift needs one.
  • Permits handled for City, County and MTO roads, including the 72-hour notice for the largest loads.
  • Work planned around your shutdowns and shifts.
  • Quotes within 2–4 business hours.
  • Insured: liability and workers’ compensation insurance (WSIB in Ontario), with a certificate of insurance on request.

When London plants compare rigging companies, these are the questions that matter: who does the rigging, who hauls, who levels, and who answers if the schedule slips.

A good fit: single machines and small in-plant moves, press and machine-tool rigging, line changes, new equipment from dealers, and plant moves and closures across London and Middlesex.

Not a fit: rigging supplies and rental (for slings, wire rope, cable and hardware, an industrial rigging and supply store is the right call); crane rental or operated crane hire on its own; theatrical, stage or marine rigging; household or office moves; rigger jobs or training.

Your Quote Checklist: What to Send Us

Send these with your quote request and we can price the job without a second round of questions:

  1. What moves: one machine, several or a line, and whether it stays in the building
  2. Make, model, weight and dimensions: a photo of the nameplate is enough
  3. Both addresses and the access at each: dock or grade door, door sizes, ceiling and floor
  4. Dates: shutdown window, move-in date or the auction removal deadline
  5. Extras: hauling, a crane lift, crating, storage, levelling or millwright installation
  6. Photos of the machine and the way out

Industrial Rigging in London: FAQ

What is industrial rigging?

Industrial rigging is the planning and work that gets a heavy machine safely from where it is to where it needs to be: working out its weight and balance, choosing pick points and rated gear, then lifting, skidding or rolling it with jacks, skates, gantries or a crane. In London that might be a press brake in a fabrication shop or a production line in an east-end plant.

What should I ask rigging contractors in London before I hire one?

Ask how they will move the machine and why that method, who applies for the City, County and MTO permits, who disconnects and reconnects power, whether crane time and set-in-place are included, and who levels the machine at the end. Good rigging contractors answer in writing. We can quote rigging, hauling and set-in-place as one price, so you can compare like with like.

When does a heavy load need railway, fire and police notice in London?

Under the City’s Heavy Loads on Roads By-law S-2, a load over 3.66 m (144 in) wide, 13 ft 6 in high or 25 m long needs at least 72 hours’ notice to the railway companies, the Fire Department and the Police before every move. A police escort is added if one is required. Any load over Highway Traffic Act limits also needs a City permit.

Which days can oversize loads move on Middlesex County roads?

For loads over 3.75 m wide or 70,000 kg, Middlesex County issues a moving permit, and those moves run Monday to Thursday only, starting after 9 a.m. and finished by 4 p.m., never on Fridays or holidays. The County issues no overweight permits in March and April. We plan the haul around those windows and rig at your plant on the days in between.

Do you sell or rent rigging equipment and supplies?

No. We are riggers, not a rigging supply store, and we bring our own skates, gantries, jacks, slings and shackles to every job. If you need slings, wire rope, cable or lifting hardware to buy, or rigging equipment to rent, an industrial rigging and supply company is the right call. If you need a machine lifted, moved or installed, send us the details.

Do you offer crane service in London, Ontario?

For machinery, yes: when a rigging job needs a crane, for example a machine coming off a flatbed with no dock or a unit going onto a roof, we lift it with our crane or a licensed partner crane and our riggers do the rigging and the set. We do not rent out cranes or operators by the hour; a crane rental company is the better fit for that.

How much do rigging services cost in London?

Rigging is quoted per job, after we see the details. The price depends on the weight and size of the machine, access at both ends, the method and any crane lift, the hauling distance and permits, and the timing. Small jobs are welcome and priced as small jobs. For a first range before you call, use our Heavy Lifting and Moving Calculator.

Can you rig equipment for transformer or electrical projects around London and St. Thomas?

Yes. We rig, move and set transformers, switchgear and generators for plants and substations, while the manufacturer and your licensed electrical contractor handle the electrical work. That includes substation equipment going to sites in St. Thomas and Elgin County. Full details are on our page for transformer and substation rigging in London and St. Thomas.

What is heavy rigging?

Heavy rigging covers loads too heavy, tall or awkward for a forklift alone: stamping presses, large machining centres, transformers and long line sections. Riggers raise them in stages on jacks and cribbing, roll them on skates or lift them with a gantry or a crane, and check the floor and route first. In London, a heavy load leaving the plant also needs the right City and County permits.

What is the difference between rigging and lifting?

Rigging is the preparation: choosing the pick points, the slings, shackles and hitch, and working out the load’s weight and centre of gravity so it stays balanced. Lifting is the act of raising and moving the load, by gantry, jacks, forklift or crane. On our jobs the same riggers do both, so the people who rigged the machine are the ones who set it down.
