Crew moving a large industrial machine on steel cribbing with a heavy-capacity forklift

When a CNC machine in a Brantford shop or plant has to move, Rigging-Busters handles the whole job. Our CNC machine movers lock the machine down, rig and skid it out, load it for CNC transport, and set and level it at the new site, anywhere in Brantford, Ontario, Brant County and the surrounding area.

If you own or run a machine shop, a move is really about two things: the machine arriving accurate, and the spindles turning again on the planned day. So the plan names who backs up the control, who drains the coolant, who disconnects the power and when the OEM technician comes back.

  • Industrial only: CNC machines, presses and plant equipment. We don’t do household or office moves.
  • One crew: rigging, transport, set-in-place, levelling and millwright installation.
  • Fast quotes: replies within 2–4 business hours, and estimates are free.
  • Minimum job: 3,500 CAD. Most industrial jobs cost more, and your written quote shows the full price.
  • Area: Brantford, Paris, St. George, Burford, Six Nations, Haldimand and Norfolk, Cambridge and Hamilton (see the full service area).

Comprehensive CNC Machine Moving Services in Brantford

Rigging-Busters offers every service a CNC machine moving job needs, booked together or one at a time.

CNC Machine Relocation

Our CNC machine relocation service covers moves inside your building, to the unit next door or across Brantford, from the Braneida Business Park on the east side to the Northwest Business Park off Highway 403.

Each relocation is planned from the route out to the new footprint: door widths, floor joints, ramps and the turning room a long machine needs.

CNC Machine Transport

As a CNC machine transportation company, we load each machine locked down and blocked on a trailer matched to its weight and height, then drive a route planned around truck routes, posted bridges and permit limits. Most single machine tools travel within the legal limits; tall or wide ones need an oversize permit, which we arrange.

Longer CNC transportation runs, to Hamilton, the GTA or across the border to the US, are planned and quoted the same way.

CNC Machine Installation

We also handle CNC machine installation: setting the machine on its levelling pads, anchoring it where the OEM calls for anchors, and rough-levelling it before the OEM technician’s final checks.

Your licensed electricians reconnect the power, and the machine is ready for the OEM to recommission.

Customized Moving Solutions

No two shops are laid out alike, so the plan is built around yours.

Typical customized moving solutions: a single lathe moved during a long weekend, a cell moved in stages so the rest of the floor keeps running, or a full shop relocated in the order your new layout needs, in Brantford or beyond.

How We Move a CNC Machine in Brantford

The order of work on a typical Brantford CNC move, with who is responsible at each step:

  1. Survey (our crew, with your maintenance lead): machine make, model and weight, the route out, floor and dock conditions, and your target dates.
  2. Plan and permits (our crew): method, crew size, trailer, and any City of Brantford, County of Brant or MTO permit an oversize load needs.
  3. Control and fluids (your team or the OEM): parameters and programs backed up, coolant drained and chips cleaned out.
  4. Power down (your licensed electricians): power disconnected and locked out; your maintenance team disconnects the air and coolant lines.
  5. Secure and skid (our crew): axes locked and the spindle, table or turret secured, then the machine is jacked onto skates or lifted on forks.
  6. Load and haul (our crew): blocked, chained and wrapped on the trailer, then driven on the planned route.
  7. Set, level and hand over (our millwrights, then the OEM): set on the new pads, rough-levelled and handed over for reconnection and OEM recommissioning.

Getting a CNC Machine Ready to Move

Preparation decides how soon the machine is cutting again. Before the crew arrives:

  • Your team or the OEM backs up the parameters, programs, offsets and PLC data, and notes the machine’s reference positions.
  • Your team drains the coolant, and the hydraulic tank if the OEM asks for it, removes chips and tooling, and empties the tool changer.
  • We lock the axes and secure the spindle head, table or turret, using the OEM’s shipping brackets where they are fitted, then skid the machine.
  • The OEM recommissions the machine at the new site: levelling to its specification, geometry checks and a test run.

Ask the OEM early for the new site’s floor requirements and a recommissioning date; the technician’s availability is often what sets the restart.

How the Machine Leaves the Floor

A typical vertical machining centre is raised a few centimetres on toe jacks, set on machinery skates and rolled to the door. Heavy or long machines, such as boring mills and big lathes, go up in stages on jack-and-roll or come out under a hydraulic gantry where the building has no bridge crane. A heavy-capacity forklift handles machines built with fork pockets, and when only a lift from above will do, the plan uses our crane or a licensed partner crane.

CNC Transport and Permits in Brantford and Brant County

Brantford is a single-tier city, separate from the County of Brant, so one move can cross two municipal permit systems plus the province. On City streets, the City of Brantford requires an oversize/overweight permit once a vehicle or its load goes over the provincial limits, such as 2.6 m wide or 4.15 m high, and trucks over 4,500 kg must stay on the signed truck routes. On County roads around Paris, St. George and Burford, the County of Brant wants the permit at least five business days ahead, does not allow single-trip moves at night, on weekends or on statutory holidays, and issues no overweight single-trip permits in March and April. Highway 403 is provincial and needs an MTO permit. We apply for all of them.

Back on Its Feet: Set-In-Place, Re-Levelling and Restart

At the new site our millwrights place the machine on its pads, line it up with your floor marks and rough-level it, and your electricians reconnect it. The OEM technician finishes the levelling and recommissions the machine. Check the level again after the first few weeks of production: slabs and pads settle, and a quick re-levelling keeps the machine accurate.

Industries We Serve in Brantford

Brantford’s industrial base leans toward metal and machinery. The City’s 2026 Industrial Directory, built from a full census, lists 382 companies in Brantford’s industrial areas, and fabricated metal products and machinery manufacturing are its two largest manufacturing groups. The Ontario Machining Network directory lists 35 machine shops and fabricators in the city, 21 of them offering CNC machining. Many of the larger plants sit in the two business parks along Highway 403: Braneida on the east side, home to heavy fabricators such as Tigercat Industries and Samuel Metal Blanking, and the Northwest Business Park, home to Mitsui High-tec, Custom Injection Molders and Ferrero Canada.

Buying at Auction or Replacing a Machine

Machinery auctions in the Brantford area can require movers to be approved by the auctioneer and to send their paperwork before the removal day, so send us the lot numbers, the removal window and the auctioneer’s rules with your request. When you replace an old machine, we can take the old one out and set the new one in the same visit, which shortens the gap in production.

Why Brantford Shops Choose Us for CNC Machine Moving

Choosing a CNC moving company in Brantford comes down to who does the work and how clearly it is planned. With us:

  • The crew that skids the machine also trucks it and sets it, so there is no hand-off halfway through the move.
  • Our CNC movers work to a written plan: method, crew, route and permits agreed before moving day.
  • Roles are clear: you or the OEM handle the control and coolant, your licensed electricians the power, and we the rigging, transport and levelling.
  • Oversize permits are ours to arrange: City of Brantford, County of Brant or MTO.
  • Quotes come back within 2–4 business hours, and estimates are free.
  • Industrial work only: machines and plant equipment, never household or office moves.
  • Insured: liability and workers’ compensation insurance (WSIB in Ontario), with a certificate of insurance on request.

A good fit: single CNC machines, cells and whole shops, dealer deliveries, auction purchases and machine swaps.

Not a fit: household, apartment or office moves (if you are looking for movers in Brantford for a home, a residential mover is the right call), CNC machining or repair, used-machine sales, and crane or equipment rental.

CNC Machine Moving Cost in Brantford: What Affects the Price

There is no flat rate for a CNC move; each quote is built from the job. The main cost drivers:

  • Weight and size of each machine, and whether it travels in one piece
  • Access: doors, docks, aisles, floor capacity and any stairs or ramps
  • Method: skates, gantry, forklift, jack-and-roll or a crane lift (crane time is included in your quote)
  • Route: distance, City, County or MTO permits, and escorts for an oversize load
  • County timing: no single-trip permit moves at night or on weekends on County of Brant roads, and no overweight single trips in March and April
  • Installation: levelling, anchoring and millwright hours

The best way to cut the cost is preparation: a backed-up control, drained coolant and a clear route save crew hours. For a rough range, try the Heavy Lifting & Moving Calculator.

CNC Machine Moving in Brantford: FAQ

How much does it cost to move a CNC machine?

It depends on the job, so every CNC move in Brantford is quoted separately. The weight and size of the machine, access at both ends, the lifting method, the distance and any City, County or MTO permits set the price. A machine that is backed up, drained and cleared of tooling takes fewer crew hours. For a rough range, use our Heavy Lifting and Moving Calculator.

What are the risks involved in moving a CNC machine?

The main risks are knocking the machine out of alignment, damaging the spindle, ways or covers, and a longer production stop than planned. They are managed by preparation: the control backed up, the axes locked and the spindle secured, a lift method matched to the machine, careful blocking on the trailer, then re-levelling and OEM recommissioning at the new site.

What are the benefits of hiring a professional CNC machine mover?

A professional machine moving company brings the right equipment and a plan for your specific machine: skates, toe jacks, a gantry or a heavy forklift, plus the permits and the trailer. One crew does the rigging, transport and set-in-place, so responsibility stays in one place, and your own team stays free to plan the restart with the OEM instead of improvising a lift.

How is a CNC machine moved from one Brantford shop to another?

In seven steps: we survey the machine and both sites, plan the method and permits, your team or the OEM backs up the control and drains the coolant, and your licensed electricians disconnect the power. We then lock the axes, secure the spindle and skid the machine onto the trailer, and set and rough-level it at the new shop for the OEM to recommission.

Which permits apply to an oversize machine move in Brantford?

It depends on the roads used. On City of Brantford streets, a vehicle or load over the provincial limits, such as 2.6 m wide or 4.15 m high, needs a City oversize/overweight permit. County of Brant roads need a County permit at least five business days ahead, and Highway 403 needs an MTO permit. Most single machine tools need none. We apply for them.

Can you move heavy machines on County of Brant roads in March or April?

Yes, with limits. The County of Brant does not issue overweight single-trip permits in March and April, so a load that is over the legal weight on County roads has to wait until May or take another route. Machines within the limits move as usual. Single-trip permit moves on County roads also cannot run at night, on weekends or on statutory holidays.

Can you collect machines bought at a Brantford auction?

Yes. Send the lot numbers, the pickup address, the removal window and the auctioneer’s rules for movers. Auctions in the area can require movers to be approved in advance and to file paperwork before removal day, so the earlier we see the terms, the better. We rig the machines out, load them and deliver them to your shop or into storage.

What do we need to do before you move our CNC machine?

Back up the parameters, programs and offsets, drain the coolant and remove chips and tooling. Your licensed electricians disconnect and lock out the power, and your maintenance team disconnects the air and coolant lines. Clear a path to the door, book the OEM technician for recommissioning, and tell us if the machine has shipping brackets. We do the lock-down and the rigging.

Which areas around Brantford do you serve?

All of Brantford, including the Braneida and Northwest business parks, and the County of Brant: Paris, St. George and Burford. We also cover Six Nations, Haldimand and Norfolk counties, Woodstock and Tillsonburg, Cambridge and Hamilton, with CNC transportation further afield on request. For machine tools in Waterloo Region, see our CNC and machine tool movers in Kitchener-Waterloo.

Do you do CNC machining or household moves in Brantford?

No to both. We move CNC machines and other industrial equipment; we don’t cut or repair parts, and we don’t move household furniture or offices. For machining, contact a local job shop, and for a home, a residential mover. If your own shop needs a machine moved, installed or relocated anywhere around Brantford, call us for a quote.
